Champions League: Liverpool vs. Roma

English Premier League team, Liverpool set to face Roma today in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The Reds haven't graced this stage for a decade, but earned their place here with a comprehensive dismantling of Manchester City over two lopsided legs.

Salah scored 34 goals in 83 appearances for the Serie A club before joining Liverpool last summer in a £34m deal.

Today's game will be the first time he will face his former colleagues.

"Mo [Salah] had a fantastic time at Roma, but he will realise pretty quickly that they are no longer his team-mates. We both have the chance to go to the final and that's all I need. It's possible – let's try everything to do it. For Roma, it's a special thing to be in a semi-final, as it is for us. These are very special moments, and if you can't enjoy them there's something wrong with you", Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp says.

West Brom exposed Liverpool with two goals from set-pieces in the 2-2 Premier League draw at the weekend and the defence looked susceptible from crosses. However, the caveat to that was it was against a previously-untested back four with Alberto Moreno, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez all bit-part players recently, who will not start today.

According to Eusebio Di Francesco, Roma coach, "Anfield is incredible. The beauty of English stadiums is amazing. In Italy we're not used to having the fans behind us in this way. Liverpool will have the fans on their side, but our away fans will support us. We need to play as a team more than ever. Liverpool are different to Barcelona in terms of pace and we need to play well to win. We want to make the most of Liverpool's possible weaknesses."

Possible line-ups

Liverpool: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mané
Out: Lallana (hamstring), Matip (thigh), Can (back)

Roma: Alisson Becker; Florenzi, Manolas, Fazio, Kolarov; De Rossi, Strootman, Nainggolan; Perotti, Džeko, Ünder
Out: Karsdorp (knee), Defrel (knee)
