Trump visit plan 'puts Queen in difficult position'

Theresa May's decision to invite Donald Trump to
a state visit has put the Queen in a "very difficult
position", a former head of the Foreign Office
says.
In a letter to The Times, Lord Ricketts said the
offer had been "premature".
A petition calling for the state visit to be cancelled
has already gathered more than 1.5 million
signatures.
On Monday, thousands of people across the UK
joined protests against Mr Trump's travel ban on
seven mainly Muslim countries.
The controversial immigration measures prompted
an emergency debate in parliament on Monday.

Trump sacks defiant attorney general

Donald Trump has fired the acting US attorney
general, after she questioned the legality of his
immigration ban.
Sally Yates, who had been appointed under Barack
Obama, earlier ordered justice department lawyers
not to enforce the president's executive order.
Dana Boente, US attorney for the Eastern District of
Virginia, replaced her as acting attorney general.

He has directed the department to enforce Mr
Trump's order.
In a statement, the White House said Ms Yates had
"betrayed" the department.
Mr Trump's order temporarily banned nationals
from seven Muslim-majority countries from
entering the US, and sparked street protests in the
US and abroad.

Quebec mosque attack: Student Alexandre Bissonnette charged

Canadian police have charged a French-Canadian student over the fatal shooting of
six Muslim worshippers at a mosque in Quebec.
Alexandre Bissonnette was charged with six counts of first-degree murder and five of
attempted murder.
The 27-year-old is due to appear in a Quebec City court over Sunday evening's
attack, during evening prayers at the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre.
Vigils are being held across Canada to commemorate those killed and injured.
More than 50 people were at the mosque when the shooting erupted just before
20:00 on Sunday.
Five people are still in hospital with injuries and another 12 people with minor
injuries were treated and released, said hospital officials.
A man of Moroccan heritage who was also arrested after the attack, Mohamed Khadir,
is now being treated as a witness.
Quebec provincial police have released the names of all six victims who were killed:
Father-of-three Azzeddine Soufiane, 57, a grocer and butcher
Khaled Belkacemi, 60, a professor in the food science department at Laval
University
Father-of-three, Abdelkrim Hassen, 41, an IT worker for the government
Aboubaker Thabti, 44, and two Guinean nationals, Mamadou Tanou Barry, 42, and
Ibrahima Barry, 39
The suspect was arrested in his car on a bridge leading from Quebec City to Ile
d'Orleans, where he called police to say he wanted to cooperate with the authorities.
According to CBC News, Mr Bissonnette studied political science and anthropology at
Laval University, whose campus is about 3km (two miles) away from the mosque.
The Montreal Gazette reports that the suspect dressed up as the Grim Reaper for
Halloween, according to his Facebook page, which has now been taken offline.
On the social network, he also reportedly "liked" US President Donald Trump and
French National Front leader Marine Le Pen.
Francois Deschamps, an official with an advocacy group, Welcome to Refugees, said
the suspect was known for his far-right views.
"It's with pain and anger that we learn the identity of terrorist Alexandre Bissonnette,
unfortunately known to many activists in Quebec for taking nationalist, pro-Le Pen
and anti-feminist positions at Laval University and on social media," Mr Deschamps
wrote on organisation's Facebook page.

Thousands of people have joined protests in
London and in cities around the UK against a
controversial travel ban on seven mainly Muslim
countries imposed by US President Donald Trump.
The ban bars citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya,
Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
MPs are holding an emergency debate on the
immigration measures.
A petition calling for PM Theresa May to cancel Mr
Trump's planned state visit to the UK has gathered
more than 1.5 million signatures.
The demonstration in London, organised by author
and columnist Owen Jones, took place outside 10
Downing Street.

US President Donald Trump's decision to halt all refugee admissions and temporarily bar people from seven Muslim-majority countries has sparked protests across the country, and drawn condemnation from the wider world. Others see the executive order as Mr Trump making good on election promises to "make America great again". But what is the order, dubbed the "Muslim ban" by those rallying against it, and who exactly does it affect? Here are some key points from the full text explained. What is happening? The order brings in a suspension of the US Refugee Admissions Programme for 120 days There is also an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees And anyone arriving from seven Muslim-majority countries - Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen - faces a 90-day visa suspension.

Some visa categories, such as diplomats and the UN, are not included in the suspension The order also introduces a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted in 2017, against a limit of 110,000 set by former President Barack Obama Priority will be given to religious minorities facing persecution in their countries. This includes those who share dual nationality with allied countries, including the UK, although Canada has been told its dual nationals are not affected. However, the UK foreign office put out a statement saying only those dual nationals travelling from one of the blacklisted seven countries might be subject to extra checks. It said those travelling from any other country to the US would not be affected and should not be subjected to any extra vetting, "regardless of your nationality or your place of birth". However, one Scottish veterinary student - who travels on an Iranian passport - was unable to fly home from her holiday in Costa Rica because she was told her transit visa for the US was no longer valid. White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said US green-card holders - legal residents - would not be affected, although he admitted to NBC's Meet the Press programme that they could be subject to greater questioning at airports. How is it being implemented? There has been a lot of confusion and uncertainty. A federal judge issued a temporary halt to the deportation of visa holders or refugees stranded at US airports, after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a case in response to Mr Trump's executive order.

The group estimated that between 100 and 200 people were being detained at airports or in transit. They are not included in the order, either. Is it legal? It appears not to be on the face of it. And the courts will certainly have to weigh some of the arguments of the parties. The US used to ban entrants from specific countries and entire regions. But in 1965, the US Congress passed the Immigration and Nationality Act which said that no person could be "discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person's race, sex, nationality, place of birth or place of residence". So, the exclusion of all Syrians would be enough to challenge Mr Trump in court. The fact that they are all Muslim countries lends weight to the argument that the order is "anti-Muslim" - which Trump aides have been keen to dismiss. Supporters of Mr Trump's order mention the post-9/11 attacks and the ability of the administration to take measures to protect national security. And they cite the president's powers stemming from a 1952 law on "Inadmissible Aliens" to "suspend the entry" of "any class of aliens" that he finds are detrimental to the interest of the United States. They also suggest that US presidents can set aside the 1965 law. The most cited example is that of President Jimmy Carter who barred some Iranians during the 1980 crisis over 52 Americans being held hostage in Tehran. What did Trump say? Mr Trump said the halt on the refugee programme was needed to give government agencies time to develop a stricter vetting system and ensure that visas were not issued to individuals posing a national security threat.

"To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting," the President said in a statement released on Facebook. "This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. "We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days." 23-year-old Miss World Kenya- Nyamira County 2016 passes away

Miss World Kenya -Nyamiri County 2016, Mercy Mokeira has passed away, her father
confirmed to eDaily Kenya.
Last year, LIB posted a photo of two Kenyan beauty queens and two inmates at
Lang'ata Women's Prison, which went viral with online users pointing out that the
prisoners are more beautiful than the queens.
The photo shows the late Miss World Kenya-Nyamira County (second from left) and
Miss World Kenya-Siaya County posing next to two female inmates, including Ruth
Wanjiku Kamende, who stabbed her boyfriend 22 times, during a visit on International
Women's Day.

Mokeira died aged 23 on Saturday, January 28, at 11:30am at North Kinangop
Hospital, where she had been hospitalised since mid January 2017.
Mercy Mokeira had fallen ill last year December and was admitted to a hospital in
Kijabe after complaining of neck pain. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with
thyroid disease. She got well and was later discharged.
However, mid January 2017, she fell ill again and was taken to North Kinangop
Hospital. On the second admission, she was frail and couldn’t talk or do things by
herself.
Her blood samples were taken to Nairobi for testing on Tuesday, but before a report
could be presented to North Kinangop Hospital, she died.
“My first born child, Mercy Mokeira, died today (Saturday, January 28) – and my
family is headed to North Kinangop Hospital to transfer her body to a morgue in
Gilgil. It is such a sad day for me,” her father, Josephat Momanyi told EDAILY on
phone at 8:50pm Saturday.
Miss World Kenya franchise holder Terry Mungai has eulogized Mercy Mokeira as a
lively and hard-working lady.
"I am saddened by the death of Mercy Mokeira. I pass my condolences to her family
and the entire Nyamira County. Mokeira was a very cheerful lady, and she did a good
job in the fight against jigger infestation in different parts of the country."

DJs and my fans to learn from my
mistake. Been keeping silence for the past
few months now based on what happened
between me and Small Doctor who thinks
he's bigger than the person who stoodby
him, believed In his talent and did all his
possible best to help him get to where he
Is today with GOD's blessing.
1. I Got to know him through a friend and
artist called O'black some years back as
his bike boy who drops him off at shows.
O'black Introduced him to me. That he
can be of help to me anytime I want to
visit Alaba Market to drop jobs done for
the marketers.. That's how he became my
personal Bike Boy which I do pay him. Not
until a day one of his Agege brother called
"Mayor" brought him to me that he want
me to help his career and I told Mayor
that Small Doctor never told me that he
sings but with love I accepted him as a
brother without collecting a dime or ask
him to sign any agreement with my outfit
#RealBeatPlanet.
Why I took over his job personally with
love was when I heard that one of his
written #Gbagaun was stolen by O'black
and featured Konga. That was when I
personally took him to Dresan to Rrecord
the song which Is his very first single and
I gave him massive promotion. I also
remembered vividly that I took him to
some street Djs back then but they all
turned him down that they can't promote
a tout song and I shouldered all his
promotion and responsibilities.
2. The purpose for this letter Is because I
get different calls and false accusation by
some DJs which he now see as saviours
ever since I dropped him off my Label.
That I was the one blocking their way from
Small Doctor for not giving them money
for promotion they are doing for him.
They never knew what I was going
through within myself, because the so
called artist Is a self-centered and stingy
that he finds It hard to settle me on any
show he gets which I never ask him again
after series of meetings and no result.
3. When I released the Best Of Small
Doctor which took over everywhere, I was
first challenged and sanctioned at Alaba
Market by the marketers, so I had to
pressurize him before he dropped 30k to
settle all marketers but I rather took him
down to alaba market to host all the
marketers because the money he dropped
can't sort anything than to just buy drinks
for the marketers and they all accepted
him as their son because they know I
never for once been bad to them.
My witnesses at Alaba Market that very

see the end of 2015.
But all thanks to almighty Allah I'm alive
today. The likes of Dj Mellowshe, Dj
Money, Dj Murbeat, Dj Samba, Dj B5 And
Churchill And Stud were also my witness.
Now that he sees none of his song on my
Track List anymore, he now finds his way
to go spend lot of money to persuade
those Djs he never for once had respect
for which I was doing for him free of
charge before.
Lesson learnt. My advice to all street Djs
Is don't help any artiste all In the name of
pity or he has talent, without signing a
deal or contract. Learn from my mistake.

my label name from your social media

Luis Suarez rescued a late draw for Barcelona at Real Betis, with the champions not being allowed a goal which crossed the line.

La Liga is the only one of Europe's top five leagues
not to have goalline technology - with the Premier

US judge suspends president Trump deportations

A US judge has issued a temporary halt to the
deportation of visa holders or refugees stranded
at airports after President Donald Trump issued an
order barring entry to them for 90 days.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a
case in response to the order issued on Friday.
It estimates that 100-200 people are being held at
airports or in transit.
Thousands of people have been protesting at US
airports over Mr Trump's clampdown on
immigration.
His executive order halted the entire US refugee
programme and also instituted a 90-day travel ban
for nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan,
Syria and Yemen.

Those who were already mid-flight were detained
on arrival - even if they held valid US visas or
other immigration permits.
Defending his move, Mr Trump early on Sunday
tweeted : "Our country needs strong borders and
extreme vetting, NOW."
On Saturday, amid protests and court challenges,
he told reporters the order was "working out very
nicely. You see it at the airports, you see it all
over."
Other executive orders issued by Mr Trump on
Saturday were:

A ban on administration officials ever lobbying
on behalf of a foreign government
An order to Defence Secretary Jim Mattis to
come up with a plan within 30 days to defeat
so-called Islamic State
Restructuring the National Security Council
with a key role for Steve Bannon , the former
populist right-wing media executive who is
now Mr Trump's top strategist
'Irreparable injury'
The ruling from federal Judge Ann Donnelly, in
New York, prevented the removal from the US of
people with approved refugee applications, valid
visas, and "other individuals... legally authorised
to enter the United States".

The emergency ruling also said there was a risk of
"substantial and irreparable injury" to those
affected.
Her ruling is not on the constitutionality of Mr
Trump's executive order. What will happen to
those still held at airports remains unclear.
In its response, the Department of Homeland
Security said it would continue to enforce the
measures that on Saturday had affected "less than
1% of the more than 325,000 international air
travellers who arrive every day".
It added that the US government "retains its right
to revoke visas at any time if required for national
security or public safety".

"The feeling of injustice is so big, and this ban is
so demeaning! Shame!" - Syrian scientist working

who now finds she cannot travel to Philadelphia in
February to visit colleagues.

visit in the US.

is now stuck overseas.

US entry ban victims vent fury
The case was brought early on Saturday on behalf
of two Iraqi men detained at JFK Airport in New
York.
One worked for the US military in Iraq. The other
is married to a former US military contract
employee.
Both have now been released. Another court
hearing is set for February.
Lee Gelernt, deputy legal director of the Immigrants
Rights Project, who argued the case in court said
that some people had been threatened with being
"put back on a plane" later on Saturday.
Mr Gelernt also said the judge had ordered the
government to provide a list of names of those
detained under the order.

France has banned free soft drink refills over obesity and diabetes

France has banned restaurants from offering free
soft drink refills over the risk of obesity and
diabetes. The ban which was first passed in April
2015, took effect on Friday, January 27, 2017
after the government said no restaurants should
offer unlimited refill of soda and other sugary
drinks for free.
According to NY Times, the move by France is in
line with WHO recommendations, which has
urged countries to impose a tax on sugary drinks
to battle the increase of obesity in the World.
However, a recent Eurostat survey of adult obesity
put the French at 15.3%, which is just below the
EU average of 15.9%.

This is an abandoned Ferrari F50, somewhere in
Ibadan, rotting away. Successor to the F40 and
only 349 units were built.
It was created to celebrate 50th Anniversary of

as the last F1 engined road car. It had a 4.7
Litre V12 mounted at 65°.
The worth of the luxury car with the current
exchange rate runs into a whooping sum of
N793,750,000.00. Its owned by one mysterious
big man named Shef. A social media
commenter said he had seen the car in this
state at the Agodi/ Total Garden area in 2013.
The problem of the Ferrari model remains

skull was fractured during a violent
confrontation over an incident in Njube suburb
area of Zimbabwe.
Mr Nkosilathi Ncube (39) died following a scuffle with his live-in
girlfriend Florence Ncube Mpofu, reports The
Chronicle.
A postmortem conducted revealed
that Ncube died due to the severe head injuries
he sustained.
Ncube’s aunt Mrs Nomazulu Chomwecho
regretted the incident. “We’re just coming from
obtaining a post- mortem which revealed that
he had a crack in the skull and his brain was
full of blood. He was severely assaulted,” said
Mrs Chomwecho.
Mrs. Chomwecho said there are still a lot of
unanswered questions to be answered over
what could have happened leading to Ncube’s
death.
The man’s girlfriend has since been arrested
over the boyfriend’s death.
Lamenting on the death of her nephew, Mrs
Chomwecho added: “He was renting a house in
Njube and when I got there he was struggling
to breath. Within 20 minutes he died while I
was in the house.
She said what they only know so far is that Mr
Ncube was fighting with his girlfriend before
police intervened. Mrs Oppah Dube, who was
Mr Ncube’s landlord, said there had been no
peace between the couple.
She said she used to call the police on several
occasions over the pair’s fights but their
troubles never ended.
“They would fight from time to time. And on
Tuesday they started at around 9PM and I
phoned the police who told me that their
members were on patrol.
They came after two hours and broke into their
room before taking them away to the police
station,” said Mrs Dube.
She said the couple returned at around 3AM
with Mr Ncube struggling to breath.
“I quizzed them on what was wrong because he
was struggling to breath. At around 6AM his
girlfriend rushed to Mr Ncube’s relatives but
they delayed coming. I had already informed
the police that he was struggling to breath. At
about 7AM he died,” Mrs Dube said.
She said she still was in shock as to what
transpired and has some unanswered
questions.
Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant
Inspector Abednico Ncube could not
immediately comment on the matter as the case
had not reached his office yesterday.
