New Zealand To Ban Foreign Buyers Snapping Up Existing Homes

New Zealand is planning to ban foreign buyers from purchasing existing homes in an attempt to tackle a housing crisis by halting a trend among the world’s wealthy to snap up property in the country.

Jacinda, 37, who was elected as part of a coalition government in September, said the new plan was designed to stop rising house prices and will apply to non-residents.

“We are determined to make it easier for Kiwis to buy their first home, so we are stopping foreign speculators buying houses and driving up prices. Kiwis should not be outbid like this,' said Ms. Ardern at a press conference in Wellington.

According to ATP, the new policy was unveiled as coalition negotiations between New Zealand First and Labour continue.

Ms. Ardern said the ban would not apply to Australia, where many New Zealanders live and it would not affect most existing free-trade agreements between 11 nations, including Japan and Australia, who are considering signing a Trans-Pacific Partnership with New Zealand.

The Prime Minister-elect also announced plans to cut immigration, focus on regional development and create new jobs, and promised that her new measures would "see a reduction in inequalities".

Nigeria, India, Thailand Join Top Business Reformers

Developing economies such as Nigeria, India, Thailand and El Salvador have made the largest strides in improving their business climates while New Zealand and Singapore retained their top ranks for ease of doing business, the World Bank said Tuesday.

In an annual report on 190 countries’ efforts to encourage investment and job creation by cutting red tape and reforming regulations, the global lender also said Sub-Saharan Africa was again the region which saw the most progress — but countries there varied widely in performance.

“It is particularly gratifying to see that many of the reforms are being carried out in economies and sectors where they are most needed,” Rita Ramalho, acting head of the bank’s Global Indicators Group, said in a statement.

Now in its 15th year, the annual report tracks indicator areas such as the ease of starting a business, connecting to power grids, contract enforcement, taxes and bankruptcy proceedings and then scores countries for their commercial environments and improvements made over time.

Countries with higher scores also tend to create more jobs, according to the report, but it warned this correlation should not be interpreted as a cause. Countries with lower scores also tended to exhibit higher income inequality, it said.

War-torn Somalia remained at the bottom of the list while the island nation of Mauritius ranked 25th, higher than Thailand, Poland and Spain — showing broad variety of experiences in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, women can now open businesses without first getting permission from their husbands but 36 economies still put barriers before women entrepreneurs, according to the report.

White House advisor Ivanka Trump last month touted the launch of a World Bank-fund aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women.

India ranked 100th, up more than 30 places, and was among the top ten most-improved, having implemented eight reforms between 2016 and 2017. India also had the highest score in South Asia for protecting minority investors.

The United States moved up two places to sixth, ahead of Britain but behind Hong Kong and South Korea.

Mainland China, the world’s second-largest economy, held steady at 78th and scored a low 172nd in for dealing with construction permits, even though the country’s recent building boom helped propel economic growth.

According to the World Bank, Beijing and Shanghai perform below international best-practices, with 23 steps and 249 days required to obtain a permit and related costs amounting to 7.8 percent of the cost of actual construction.

In 60th-ranked Turkey, by comparison, which ranks 96th in construction, permits took only 18 steps and 103 days, costs amounted to four percent.

President Muhammadu Buhari To Appoint More Ministers

President Muhammadu Buhari will soon appoint more ministers into his cabinet. He will also make board appointments, a demand by his party members over the months.

Buhari gave hints of the new appointments in a speech delivered today to the National Executive of the All Progressives Congress.

The president at the moment has 36 ministers, with 14 of them being ministers of state. He doubles as the full minister of petroleum.

He said he was having a trimmed cabinet to avoid waste.

Now faced with demands by his party for more inclusiveness and patronage, he said he would be shifting ground soon.

The “compressed Federal Executive Council”, he said, “will be expanded to bring in more supporters at Federal Level, with fresh ideas to be injected into the government”. He did not indicate whether he will do a cabinet reshuffle.

Similarly, the President also hinted he will be appointing more people to the boards of government agencies and corporations.

“Last year I said we would re-constitute the Boards of Parastatals. I must regret the fact that we have not done so, for many reasons.

“Some of us in this meeting may know I had given instructions since October 2015 for this exercise to start. But there have been inordinate delays through several Committees in an attempt to get the balance right and to make sure all parts of the country are equitably represented.

“On the other hand, I am keenly aware that our supporters are very eager for these appointments to be announced. By the Grace of God, these appointments will be announced soon. Especially now that the economy is improving, we will have the resources to cater for the appointees.”, he said.

10 Tricky Interview Questions And How To Answer Them

Are you smarter than an interviewer? If you prepare properly, you will be.
During a job interview, employers sometimes ask tricky questions to trip you up – not out of maliciousness, but to get an accurate sense of your candidacy. Interviewers know that you’ve probably practiced all of the traditional questions, so they try to stump you with trickier ones to get a better idea of your background, your communication skills, and how you’ll perform should they offer you the job.

Here are the 10 trickiest interview questions meant to trip you up, with suggestions on how to answer them and sample answers.

1. What’s your biggest weakness?

The Trap: The first step to fixing a problem is admitting it. When employers ask this question, it’s not just about figuring out your weaknesses, but about finding out whether or not you’re aware of them, and if you’re intending to make changes.

How to Answer: Be modest. We all have weaknesses, and it’s okay to mention some parts of your skill set that need work. But, give your weakness a silver lining, and use your answer as an opportunity to highlight other strengths and underscore your determination to keep getting better.

Sample Answer: “I’m a perfectionist – sometimes to a fault. While this means my work is always high-quality, I’ve realized that sometimes I spend more time obsessing over little details that don’t matter in the long-run, rather than moving on to my next task. I’m learning working on prioritizing between perfectionism and efficiency, and learning about time management and productivity strategies.”

2. Is this position a similar role to any other jobs you are considering?

The Trap: Your interviewer may have two goals in mind here. He or she may be angling to uncover where else you’re applying, or may be trying to get a better idea of your past experience, and your future professional goals. This can be a good way for interviewers to get a sense of your strongest skills and determine if you’ll actually be a good fit for the job.

How to Answer: If you’re applying for a variety of different positions, certainly don’t name them all – and don’t name-drop different companies. For one, you don’t want your employer to think that your skills and interests are totally all over the place. Of course, it’s good to have a wide-range of different abilities, but it’s most important to present yourself as the best fit for the specific job you’re applying for. For example, if you’re a writer who is also a project manager and you’re interviewing for project management jobs, you wouldn’t want to mention that you’re also applying to writing jobs. Fortunately, this is the type of question where it’s acceptable to give a general answer and then move on.

Sample Answer: “Yes, I am looking for jobs that fit this description. This is my preferred field, which I’m personally and professionally passionate about. Fortunately, the job description, requirement and responsibilities of this specific position seem best aligned with my experience and interests.”

3. Why do you want to work here?

The Trap: Employers want to figure out if you’ve done your research about the company, and whether you want this job, rather than any old job.

The Best Way to Answer: Don’t just say that you want to work there because there’s free gym access, complimentary coffee and a casual dress code. Make sure your answer has real meaning. Be enthusiastic in your answer and talk about how you connect with the company’s core values, their mission, and the work they do. Then, you can go into a little more detail about the specific position for which you’re applying.

Sample Answer: “I truly feel aligned with the company’s values, mission and goals. I connect with your belief in integrity in your work, in fostering an open, honest and supportive workplace, and your desire to better the lives of both your employees and your customers. I believe that this position, specifically, will provide a huge – and enjoyable – opportunity for me to contribute to your objectives and add value to the company as a whole.”

4. If you could work for any company, where would you work?

The Trap: Your interviewer may be trying to figure out how invested you are in their company, in addition to determining where else you might be looking to apply. People sometimes have trouble answering this type of question because they can’t decide if they should keep mum, or mention some other, big-name companies that they’ve interviewed with.

The Best Way to Answer: Don’t mention any specific companies. Think about if you were on a date, and your date asks, “If you could date anyone else in this restaurant, who would it be?” If you asked your date that question, what would you want to hear? Emphasize how the company you’re interviewing with is your top priority.

Sample Answer: “Actually, I’ve spent a lot of time during my job search researching different companies I might want to work at, and this company stood out the most. I share your mission, values and objectives and feel that I would really thrive in this type of work environment.”

5. Are you the type who checks email during your vacation?

The Trap: This is a tricky one. On one hand, you want to frame yourself as someone who is dedicated to their work. At the same time, employers know that employee health and wellness is a key factor to continuous success and want to make sure you’re smart about taking care of yourself even outside of the office. Burn-out is a real thing, and no matter how durable you think you are, everyone is human and everyone needs a little rest sometimes.

How to Answer: Confirm your dedication to getting your job done, but also convey your understanding that personal well-being is key to professional success.

Sample Answer: “I’m 100% dedicated to going above and beyond when it comes to fulfilling my responsibilities. That being said, I also know that it’s important to take care of myself to ensure my long-term success. I try not to work when I’m on official vacation. But, before I leave for a vacation, I always make sure all my duties are covered before signing off, and I do make sure my supervisor has my personal cell phone number should an emergency arise.”

6. Where do you see yourself in five years?

The Trap: Employers don’t want to invest in hiring, training and paying an employee who’s not going to stick around, or who’s going to change career paths. Though it’s becoming more and more common for people to spend less and less time at each job they hold, you certainly don’t want to give your employer any doubts about your commitment to the role.

The Best Way to Answer: You don’t have to profess that you absolutely see yourself with the same company. Instead, answer in a way that demonstrates your commitment to growing within your field. Employers want to hire employees who are self-motivated and who have an inner drive to better themselves, and keep learning. But, keep in mind that an employer may follow up with a question asking about specifics, so if possible have a few key tangible goals you’d like to accomplish.

Sample Answer: “I see myself working within this field, but I hope to have progressed to a higher level of responsibility, possess a greater degree of knowledge and advance and expand my skill set. I always want to keep learning, keep getting better, and I hope after five years my efforts will carry me closer and closer to becoming an expert at what I do. That being said, I’m also committed to staying happy and fulfilled with my career so that, too, factors into my five-year plans.”

7. What do you think your references will say about you?

The Trap: Employers want to see if you’re insecure about your references and if you’ll volunteer any negative information about your prior experience or your ability to succeed in your role.

The Best Way to Answer: Simply put, don’t fall for the trap, but do be modest. Under no circumstances should you offer up any negative information. Your references wouldn’t have agreed to serve as references if they weren’t willing to speak positively about you.

Sample Answer: “I’ve had a wonderful experience working with all of my references, so I do expect their testimonials to reflect all that we’ve accomplished together at work, along with positive rapport we share personally.”

8. Which part of the job description sounds most challenging, and why?

The Trap: Are you really as experienced as you say you are? When it comes to a job description, there will likely be aspects that you can ace, and aspects that will cause you some trouble. Employers want to know if your strengths align with their greatest needs.

The Best Way to Answer: A lie about your skills will come to haunt you later, so be honest. At the same time, use the answer as an opportunity to present yourself as a candidate who is always up for a challenge, and who is sharpening your skills to keep up with that challenge.

Sample Answer: “As a visual designer, the bulk of my experience has been in graphic design, specifically logos, posters and advertisement. I find dynamic web design more challenging, but challenges like that I live for. I just completed an online course on designing for mobile apps, and I’m currently taking another one in user experience design to ensure my abilities keep up with the latest trends.”

9 Tell me about your dream job.

The Trap: In many cases, passion breeds productivity. Dedication leads to success. Employers want to know just how invested you’ll be in the role, or if you see the job as a stop-gap measure just to keep up some income while you hunt for something better. Along the same lines, employers want to know if you love the idea of the job, or the job itself. Just because a job title sounds glamorous, doesn’t mean you’ll love the day-to-day work.

How to Answer: Is the job you’re applying for your dream job? If yes, then say so, emphatically. If your dream job is far-flung or far-fetched, it’s probably best not to mention it. You want the employer to understand that you’ll be fully invested in the position and not day-dreaming about some other position while you’re at desk. If the job you’re applying for is somewhere in between, you can tactfully frame your answer to convey that.

Sample Answer: “Advertising is my dream field and the junior copywriting position is an ideal placement for me right now. Of course, I know I have lots of learning to do before I can achieve my dream job – a creative director – and I believe this job will put me on that path.”

10. Everyone has one exaggeration on their job application. What’s yours?

The Trap: Will you fall for your interviewer’s attempt persuade you into admitting that’s an exaggeration or little white lie within your application? Hopefully not. And hopefully, your cover letter or resume is free from any mistruths. It’s never worth lying on your application.

How to Answer: Keep your cover letter and resume honest so you can be honest when you answer. (Did you lie on your resume? Here’s what to do.)

Sample Answer: “I’m confident that my cover letter, resume and portfolio accurately represent my experience and my work. You are welcome to reach out to the references I provided if you’d like them to vouch for my attributes.”

BA To Fly Nigerian Yams To UK

British Airways has offered to fly Nigerian yams to the United Kingdom in a bid to sustain the export of the produce. Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, disclosed this during a chat with the press in Abuja, weekend.

He said: “British Airlines just called and said they are willing to fly the yams. You know when they are leaving Nigeria they carry no cargo, it is only when Nigerians are coming back that they overload the whole place with hand luggage. So they said the luggage holes can take one or two tons of yams.

“DHL flies cargo planes into Nigeria daily, 747 planes and they go back largely empty. They have to fill the aircraft with sand bags to balance the weight. They said arrange let’s fly this thing, we will give you discounts. “The Russian Ambassador came to my office to ask if we can sell them fruits— pawpaw, avocado pears, bananas, mangos. He came in with his jet.”

Chief Audu Ogbeh insisted that there was no alternative to exportation of agricultural produce as the realities of oil and gas export had made the future very bleak. “Many countries, we have been told will in 10years or 15years be using electrical cars; it is time for us to get ready because in five years, they will probably get there. “Tesla is a group in the US, their electrical cars are now able to drive 500kms on a single charge and it takes eight minutes to recharge, almost faster than your cell phone and you can clock another 500kms.

“What do we do when that time comes and oil is gone and there is nothing to export? Some people are there and anything you try to do they attack you, they harass you and how do you earn forex?

“Nigeria is owing N18trillion in debt right now and 20% or so of that is foreign, the rest is local debt. How do you pay the foreign ones if you have no earnings in dollars? How do you import medicines and vaccines if you don’t have dollars? ‘’The argument that yams would be short is not true; 30% of the yams we grow rot away and we are the largest producers of yam in the world. The figure is not mine, it is that of the Food and Agricultural Organisation, FAO.

“I think generations past have made many serious mistakes, we mismanaged oil and gas. If not, by now, Nigeria should be talking of $200 billion foreign reserves. Between food and petroleum products we blew 60billion a year on imports, it made no sense. “Why couldn’t we refine our petrol here, why import rice, sugar, milk, tomato paste, fruit juice concentrate, fish, apples, grapes and what have you? “So the big question is where are we heading because if we cannot sort this thing out quickly enough, I can assure you like when I talked about Boko Haram many years that trouble lies ahead.

On the other hand, if we can turn it around, this country could be a paradise but we don’t have that much time. “Too many young people are angry, they are all over the streets, kidnapping, and stealing, killing and what have you. What kind of country are we in that people kill each other so happily. You just enter a village 40 people have been killed, 11 people have been killed, you kidnapped somebody and shot him; are we sane?”

Anthony Joshua Earns 20th knockout In A Row By Stopping Carlos Takam In Cardiff

Anthony Joshua surpassed Mike Tyson’s knockout record by stopping Carlos Takam in the tenth round in Cardiff at the Principality Stadium.

The three-belt heavyweight world champion moved to 20-0 as a professional and extended his knockout streak to 20.

Tyson’s best ever streak was 19 and Joshua is now just one behind Frank Bruno’s record of 21.

The latest knockout sets up another huge summer unification fight for Joshua who has his eye on WBC king Deontay Wilder and WBO champion Joseph Parker. But it was a stoppage that Joshua had to work for up against Takam, who proved he really did have a head made of cement.

Joshua was given a hero’s welcome by over 75,000 people to a chorus of cheers. Nigerian Star boy, Wizkid, song tittle Ojuelegba was also played.

It was an unusual approach from the normally explosive Joshua, but the second saw the return of something more like the Brit boxing fans have fallen in love with. Joshua rocked Takam, but also fell foul of a nasty head butt up against a fighter four inches smaller than him.

Takam was using the height difference to his advantage as he sliced some hooks onto Joshua as the Brit moved in and out of range. With blood coming from Joshua, he was slow going in the third, but Joshua exploded into life in the fourth.

Joshua was looking and finding a home for several uppercuts and sent Takam crashing close to the end of the round.  It was a culmination of damage on Takam that sent him to his knees, but he beat the count and survived the round.

Joshua went back to the hooks with a nasty cut on Takam’s right eye and soon the doctor was called to check on it. Blood was pouring from Takam’s eye, but he was cleared to continue.

Joshua moved in up close, but a very game Takam invited him on and refused to give in. It was the same story in the sixth and then out of nowhere in the seventh, Takam reminds Joshua of his power with a crunching right hand.

Joshua returned to working Takam’s body before again the doctor was called in the ninth round. At this stage both eyes of Takam’s were cut and swelling badly, but the doctor decided he was fit to continue.

Iyanya: I Am A Good Looking Man, I Can Get Girls Whenever I Want

Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, better known by his stage name Iyanya, has revealed his reason for still being single at 31.

According to the Kukere crooner, even if he isn't a musician , he will still have girls flocking around him, as he is a good looking man.
In his words:

“How do I miss the attention of women when I am running away from them? Check me out, even without music, you think I would not get girls? Girls are not an issue, they flock around me and it is even happening as I speak with you. I am not in love with anybody at the moment because I am focused on a lot of things. When the time comes, nobody would know.”

“When I fall in love again, I am definitely not going to inform the press and the reason is simple, anytime I step out to tell the world that this is my girlfriend, I end up losing the girl. Over the years, I have learnt to keep it to myself. I would show the world my videos and shows but not my girlfriend. I would not show the world when we are kissing. I have learnt from my past mistakes,” he said.

On what people think with him being quiet at the moment:

“I feel nothing when people say I am not the Iyanya they used to know because everything is in their head. What you think about me is not what is happening in my world and you think such because of what you see or hear. I am fine, I am blessed and I am still touring the world. I am happy. So, if you are over there thinking that Iyanya is not who he used to be, then that is your thought and has nothing to do with me.”

He continued, “Everything about me is still happening on a high level; don’t judge me based on what I post on social media. I am blessed and it is for life. You cannot judge me based on what you see me post. I show you only what I want you to see, it does not mean that my life depends on the pictures or videos that I post. This is a social media world where people judge you based on what they see on your social media pages.

“That is not my life; it is only what I show people. I have a life that is different from what I post, so no one can generalise my being just by looking at pictures. People would have different opinions about my music but as an entertainer, I have to be versatile. I won a competition in 2008 and within the ten weeks that the competition lasted, I was expected to do different genres of music. I don’t just have fans that want to listen to dance songs, there are those who want to hear me sing, so there is nothing wrong with stepping the tempo up or down because I am not catering to a particular kind of fans. I have people who love the Kukere guy while the others are in love with the guy that won MTN Project Fame nine years ago. I always try to balance it but it is okay for people to have their opinion but I am doing very well.”

“When I posted on my social media account that I was in love with Jeff Akoh of Project Fame, it was not that we were an item. He just finished performing without rehearsing with the band that was there and his vocals literally blew me away. I was really impressed because he had not rehearsed with the live band that was playing. I was so impressed that I yelled, ‘Jeff I love you. You are such an amazing singer.’ Then I tweeted it. People that really know me are aware of the fact that I joke a lot. I put a hash tag with the post #ageaintnothingbutanumber and I knew the post would stir up a controversy. It was not planned, neither was it a publicity stunt. It was a spur of the moment thing. I had listened to him and I fell in love with his vocals. People just took it out of context,” she said.

She continued;
“For me, I don’t have anything against dating someone younger but I would rather date someone who is older than me. It is my choice and I don’t have a particular reason. I am not in a relationship at the moment because I am focused on being successful. Love would eventually come but there are some bills that need to be paid staring me in the eyes. I cannot say my love interest would come and pay for it.”

As an advocate of the empowerment of the girl child, the singer said that she feels the government is not doing enough. “I am an advocate with oneorg.com for girl child education. I would not say the government has done enough for the girl child in Nigeria and that is why we are advocating on their behalf. We know it takes a long process in making policies but the more we keep lending our voices, the more the lawmakers are aware that it is high time issues like this were addressed. It goes beyond the government because they could put in place some policies but it would not be implemented. That is another ball game entirely. We just hope that with the noise we are making and the places we have been to on behalf of the girl child, everything would be okay. It is a gradual process,” she said.

Dalung Re-Opens National Stadium Swimming Pool Today

The  Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung, Dalung will  re-open  the newly renovated National Stadium swimming pool Complex situated at the National Stadium complex in Surulere, Lagos today. It  was fully renovated after 18 years of abandonment by successive governments.

Meanwhile,  Dalung has charged Nigerian Swimmers to excel at the 2020 Olympic Games slated for Tokyo.

“Now, the Aquatic Federation will have no excuse when we ask them for updates about their activities towards presenting athletes for the 2020 Olympic Games. The world class facility is now at their beck and call for them to make use of. All they need is little logistics to organize local and national events where talents will be discovered and nurtured.”

The Minister who will be in Lagos for the landmark occasion will be using the ceremony to declare open the 2nd West and Central African CANA Zone 2 Junior Swimming Championship at the renovated Olympic size swimming pool complex.

Barrister Dalung praised the contractor, Joseph Odobeatu popularly known as O’Jez for his commitment and determination to execute the project at a time when the Federal Government could not immediately meet up with its own end of the bargain in realizing funds on time for the project.

“I am indeed overwhelmed by the pace of work recorded since I assumed office. We are very happy that a national facility which was abandoned for 18 years has been completely renovated and now ready to be used for national and international competitions.

The contractor Joseph Odobeatu has lived up to expectation and has defended his integrity. He may not have made monetary profit but money cannot buy the name he has made here,” Dalung said.

The swimming complex which was in a dilapidated state for 18 years and rehabilitated comprises a state box, press gallery, changing rooms, warm up swimming pool, pumping and treatment machines, spectators stand and an entertainment stage.

The Minister said the project will be counted as one of the achievements to mark President Muhammadu Buhari’s two years in office.
