The department of economic crimes of the Madrid regional prosecutor’s office filed a suit on Tuesday with a court against Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo on tax fraud of 14.76 million euros ($16.5 million), local media reported.
According to El Pais newspaper, Ronaldo is accused of committing four crimes in the period of 2011-2014.
As per goal.com, Ronaldo had evaded €1,393,906.83 in 2011, €1,665,304.09 in 2012, €3,201,266.93 in 2013 and €8,508,419.55 in 2014.
Cristiano is said to have hidden his income from image rights. Cristiano lines his pockets from his contract with Real Madrid and also through major sponsorship deals.
Major brands sign him up to endorse their products. Cristiano also has his own brand CR7, which promotes sportswear, footwear among others.
Real Madrid and Portugal superstar was at the top of the Forbes recently released a list of highest- paid athletes in the world.
