A 58-year-old man, Hilary Odunze, who allegedly stole N250,000, on Friday, appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.
Odunze, who is of no fixed address, is facing one count charge of stealing.
The accused was alleged to have obtained the money from one Mr Samuel Olakanmi under the pretence of helping him to obtain a Spanish visa.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 7 at Baggage area of Seme border.
“He collected the money from the complainant and disappeared but he was later apprehended recently while boarding a commercial bus to Ghana,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence stipulates a three -year- jail term for the offenders.
The magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in the like sum.
Adefioye said that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The court adjourned the case to Oct. 23 for hearing. (NAN)
