The 2017 Ramadan is coming up in about two weeks. See 5 important things to know

According to Quranaloneislam.net, the word “Ramadan” is derived from  “ramida , which means “to be burning, be blasted by the sun”.

During this period, which lasts for a month, Muslims fast, pray, do charity works, abstain from gossiping, swearing, fighting and other vices, while married couples refrain from sexual intercourse during the day.

In honour of this Holy month of fast, here are some verses from the Qu'ran.

1. "Ramadan is the (month) in which the Quran was sent down, as a guide to mankind and a clear guidance and judgment (so that mankind will distinguish from right and wrong).. " (Q 2:183)

2. " Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you many learn piety and righteousness.

Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwaa." (Q2:183)

3. "And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew." (Q 2:184)

.4. "So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days.

Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.
(Q 2:185)

5. It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives [for sexual relations]. They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them.

Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you. So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you.

And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night].

Then complete the fast until the sunset. And do not have relations with them as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques. These are the limits [set by] Allah , so do not approach them.

Thus does Allah make clear His ordinances to the people that they may become righteous. (Q 2:187)

Ramadan is expected to start on May 26 or 27 and end on June 24, 2017.
