A pastor and Founder of Love Fire Ministry, Pastor Godwin Emmanuel,
has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Benin City, Edo State.
Emmanuel popularly known as Prophet Speed, was killed on Sunday night along Oko Central road, off Airport road, Benin.
He reportedly founded the church about 11 months ago.
Head of media in the church, Mr. Festus Edema, who confirmed the incident, told journalists that the deceased was on his way to distribute food items to members of the church when he was shot dead.
Edema said the killers pretended to be pushing their car along the road, a development that made the victim to stop for them to pass.
“Being a strong man, he still tried to put the car in reverse and as
he was reversing the car, he hit a fence and they came to shoot him at
close range and that was what silenced him,” Edema said.
Also speaking, a member of the church who identified himself simply as Pastor Esquire, said the cleric’s death has cause a great setback for the church.
“When I heard about the news of his death, it was devastating and shocking. It is a painful one, very painful, but God will give us the strength to go through it,” Esquire said.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Haliru Gwandu, condemned the rising cases of assassination in the state.
He said his men would soon fish out the killers.
“My command is ever ready to deal decisively with night marauders,” Gwandu said.

“The man of God stopped for them to pass so that he can have his way.
He never knew that they were the people sent to attack him. So that is
how they shot him in the chest and the stomach.
