No fewer than 10 persons have been
confirmed dead after a commercial bus collided with a heavy - duty truck on the Agbor- Abudu- Benin expressway in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
One person was also said to have been injured in the fatal crash, which
occurred at about 8pm on Wednesday, around Ugoneki and Evbuobanosa near Abudu.
It was learnt that the truck was marked , FST 280 XR , while the the 18- seater Toyota bus had the registration number , MKD 492 XB.
The commercial bus also reportedly had the inscription, NNTCL 670 at the back.
The state Sector Commander of the
Federal Road Safety Corps , Samuel
Odukoya, confirmed the incident.
Odukoya said that four of the
passengers died after they were rushed to a nearby hospital.
An unofficial source had disclosed that the commercial bus was heading for Benin from Onitsha in Anambra State.
A team of FRSC officials from the
Abudu unit were said to have been
deployed in the scene, after they were alerted by some villagers.
The Public Relations Officer, George
Otoaviokhai, in a statement on
Thursday, attributed the cause of the
accident to driving against traffic.
Otoaviokhai, however , noted that the deceased and injured victims were taken to Aigbogun clinic in Abudu.
