Mugabe Bans Foreign NGOs From Zimbabwe’s Elections

President Robert Mugabe has banned the west-funded Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) from observing the 2018 elections.

This is not the first time that the country has barred Western organisations from observing elections, accusing them of harbouring sinister intentions to promote regime change.

“We don’t need them. We are saying no. We are going to have elections in 2018 and we are going to say no to the whites.

“We don’t mind their diplomats participating but the NGOs, no. We don’t want them at all,” he told journalists from Chinese media organisations.

He accused such NGOs of meddling in the Kenyan elections, saying they had influenced opposition leader Raila Odinga to boycott the polls.

“They want to work with opposition parties all the time. In other words they don’t have that impartiality of mind and judgment,” Mugabe said.

The statement will likely draw criticism from opposition parties in Zimbabwe which have always called for Western countries and organisations to observe elections to ensure that they are credible, free and fair.

Nigeria Returns Loaned Aircraft To Pakistan

Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has returned four Super Mushshak aircraft loaned to it by Pakistan Government.

Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He stated that the aircraft were for ab-initio flying training of pilots at 401 Flying Training School, Kaduna State.

Adesanya added that “the disassembled aircraft were loaded aboard cargo aircraft and flown out of Air Force Base, Kaduna State on Oct. 23.

“The aircraft were temporarily made available by Pakistan Government at no cost to NAF for training of pilots in December 2016, prior to delivery of 10 trainer aircraft ordered by NAF.”

The director explained that NAF used the four Super Mushshak trainer aircraft to train four instructor pilots and graduated 16 ab-initio student pilots, including two female pilots.

He explained further that the training took place at the 401 Flying Training School, Kaduna State.

Adesanya said the training had enhanced NAF’s ability to train its pilots locally, thereby helping to build the needed capacity to further prosecute the fight against insurgency in the North-East.

He said “having taken delivery of the first batch of five new trainer aircraft, there was no need any longer to retain the aircraft, hence their return, in line with the agreement between the two countries.”

The director added that NAF was expecting to receive the remaining five new Super Mushshak aircraft it ordered before the end of December.

Goat Milk Best For Healthy Growth

The Nigerian Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services has recommended the consumption of goat milk, saying it is more beneficial to healthy growth than cow milk.

The forum in its Fact Sheet on Thursday stated that goat milk contained more protein, a higher level of essential amino acids and could supply the body with more vitamin A than cow milk.

The Fact Sheet emphasised that the milk from goat was higher in calcium and phosphorous, adding that it has more potassium.

According to it, the milk is also rich in iron, copper, magnesium, manganese and has a lot of antioxidant activity.

It also remarked that the protein in goat milk could digest faster and easier than that of cow milk.

It, however, noted that most Nigerians do not consume goat milk due to its `nauseating’ flavour and bitter taste, and advised that the udder must be cleaned thoroughly with warm water and the coat brushed well before milking to avoid the bitter taste.

“This is to avoid foreign matter from the skin getting into milk, the milk also needs to be filtered and the buckets, jars being used sterilised.

“Also, once milking is done, the milk should be promptly cooled to about 17c, this will stop enzyme action, prevent the breakdown of fats, other lipids to release fatty acids which contributes to the goaty flavour of milk.

“The female goats produce a lot of pheromones and when kept close to the male goats, they get affected by the latter’s odour, which is passed into milk.

“It’s safer to keep the doe and buck yards apart, especially when milking.

“The farmer should only allow the does and bucks to meet during the breeding season, this helps in eliminating the goaty flavour in milk,” it stated.

23 killed, 43 Injured In Fire At Fireworks Factory In Indonesia

At least 23 people have been killed and dozens injured after an explosion and fire at an Indonesian fireworks factory, police say.

The fire broke out at an industrial complex in Tangerang, a satellite city of Jakarta.

“"There are 103 workers in total working for this factory," Nico Afinta, director of general crime at Jakarta Police, told Indonesia's Kompas TV.

He said 43 injured people had been taken to hospital, and that the remains of 23 victims had been found.

A firefighter on the scene said the victims had been burned beyond recognition.

“Those who died are completely unrecognizable, totally burnt,” Oni Sahroni told Metro TV.

Parts of the building collapsed after being gutted by the blaze which scorched nearby cars. Witnesses reported hearing two major blasts erupt from the site.

The factory — part of a complex that borders a residential area — had only been operating for six weeks, district government official Toni Rustoni told Metro TV.

The blaze, which broke out in the morning, was brought under control by late afternoon and authorities were working to recover the victims’ bodies from the building.

Leicester City Name Puel As New Manager

English Premier League club side, Leicester City have signed on Frenchman Claude Puel as their new manager on a three-year deal.

Former Southampton boss Puel replaced Craig Shakespeare who was sacked last week with Leicester, the 2016 English champions, third-bottom of the table.

“It’s a great privilege to become the new manager of Leicester City – a club whose values and ambitions are closely aligned to my own,” the 56-year-old Puel said on Leicester’s website.

“The opportunity to help the club build on its remarkable recent achievements is a truly exciting one and I’m looking forward to working with the owners, players, staff and supporters to deliver further lasting success.”



Leicester, who followed their title-winning campaign with a 12th-place finish last season, said assistant manager Michael Appleton would remain in his role.

He had stood in for two games since Shakespeare’s sacking and won both.

Vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha described Puel as “a perfect fit”.

“Upon meeting Claude, his attention to detail, knowledge of our squad, understanding of our potential and his vision to help us realise it were extremely impressive,” he said.

“He quickly emerged as the outstanding candidate and I am delighted we will have the opportunity to reinforce our long-term vision, aided significantly by his expertise.”

Puel, who previously managed AS Monaco, Lille, Olympique Lyonnais and Nice, led Southampton to eighth in the Premier League last season.



His performance at Southampton was in spite of losing a number of key players in high-profile transfers.

He also guided them to the League Cup final where they lost 3-2 to Manchester United.

But he was sacked after a poor finish to a campaign during which Southampton scored only 41 goals in 38 league games.

Shakespeare was appointed Leicester manager in March following the dismissal of Italian Claudio Ranieri nine months after he led the team to their first-ever English top-flight title.

Police Arrest 5 Suspects For Breaking Into Shops In Jigawa

The Police in Jigawa on Thursday announced the arrest of five persons suspected of breaking into 10 shops in Dutse, the state capital.

The command Public Relations Officer, Jinjiri Abdu, confirmed the arrest in an interview, in Dutse.

According to him, the suspects have been terrorising shop owners along the popular Hakimi street in Dutse and other parts of the town.

Abdu alleged that those arrested had broken into over 10 shops in the last three months and carted away goods and other valuables.

The command spokesman explained that three of the suspects believed to be directly involved in the alleged crime were apprehended in the locality while two others were arrested in Kano for alleged receipt of stolen items.

He said the suspects would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation and urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious character to the nearest police station for prompt action. (NAN)

Hollywood Actor, Robert Guillaume Dies at 89

Veteran actor and Emmy Award-winning, Robert Guillaume, best known for his title role in the TV series "Benson," died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 89 after he had battled prostate cancer in recent years.

His wife, Donna Guillaume said, 'he kinda went the way everyone wishes they could, surrounded by love and in his sleep".

She added that her husband really loved making music, entertaining and making people laugh. He treasured his role as Rafiki in Disney's 1994 animated film "The Lion King," she said.

Guillaume is survived by four children, all of whom had spent time visiting with their father in his final weeks.

Prisoners To Vote In 2019 General Elections - Says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it is making arrangements with the Nigeria Prisons Service to ensure that prisoners are allowed to vote in the 2019 general elections.

The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this in Abuja on Tuesday at a dialogue session with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room Dialogue – a coalition of over 70 civil society organisations in Nigeria.

The development comes three years after a Federal High Court in Benin, Edo State, ruled that prisoners in Nigeria have the right to vote in all elections conducted in the country.

The INEC boss said the commission was looking at the possibility of creating polling units in Nigerian prisons to allow some categories of inmates to vote.

He, however, said certain categories of prisoners would not be allowed to vote depending on the nature of the crimes they committed.

 Yakubu said, “We have already engaged the Comptroller-General of Prisons and we have statistics on the number of prisoners nationwide and the number of inmates that are registered. We are looking at the possibility of creating polling units in the prisons and to enable some categories of prisoners to vote.

“Ghana does it but there are some categories of prisoners who by the nature of crimes committed lose the right to vote. Whatever we can do to open up the process to ensure that as much as possible Nigerians are given the opportunity to vote, will be done.”

Also speaking on the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, the INEC boss said the commission would do everything to ensure that the election is not inconclusive.

Yakubu raised the alarm over the wrongful substitution of names of governorship candidates by two political parties ahead of the governorship election.

He regretted that the high level of non-compliance to the Electoral Act by the political parties was threatening the electoral system.

Although the INEC boss declined to name the parties involved in the wrongful substitution of candidates’ names, he warned that if the act was eventually challenged in court, the whole election could be voided on that account and the nation made to bear the financial brunt of conducting a fresh election.

The Executive Director, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, and Convener of Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, said the event was organised to find out the commission’s preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State governorship poll as well as other elections update.

IMT Student Stabbed Commercial Sex Worker To Death In Enugu (Graphic Photo)

The police in Enugu State have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed a commercial sex worker to death on Sunday, following a disagreement he had with the slut.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement he issued on Monday, said that the incident happened at about 3:30 a.m. at Onuato Street, Enugu.

Amaraizu said that the victim accompanied the suspect to his apartment where they had a disagreement which resulted in a scuffle that led to her death.

He said that the suspect, who picked up the sex worker at Rangers Avenue on Oct. 22, had agreed with her that he would pay her N4,000 after passing the night with him.

The PPRO quoted the suspect as disclosing that he had drunk to his fill and that on arrival, because it was already getting late, he demanded that they had sex immediately.

“His request did not influence anything as the deceased allegedly requested to finish what she was inhaling in order to be in the mood for the business of the day. 

“The accused maintained that after several hours of pressuring her and without any answer, he slept off and woke up before 3 a.m.,” Amarizu stated.

The police spokesman said that the accused immediately ordered the sex worker to leave the apartment since the aim of bringing her appeared to have been defeated.

“The accused said that the deceased resisted the order and allegedly warned him to beware as she would not succumb to any person’s threat whatsoever. 

“She later headed for a kitchen knife that was seen in the kitchen spot of the suspect’s room after allegedly biting him. 

“The accused further revealed that a fight suddenly broke out between them and as the deceased tried to stab him to death with the kitchen knife, he overpowered her,” he said. 

Amarizu quoted the suspect as saying that the kitchen knife went straight to the stomach of the deceased and he finally stabbed her on the neck region and she died.

The police spokesman said that the accused later wrapped her body and hurriedly arranged to travel to Lagos.

According to him, the suspect was nabbed, following a tip off from members of a local vigilante.

He said that the body was recovered from the apartment and deposited at the mortuary of the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre, Enugu, as investigations into the incident had commenced.

NDLEA Arrests 25 Women For Drugs In Edo State (Photos)

25 women have been apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State for dealing in drugs. The women were among 86 people apprehended for the offence, including a Malian national. 

Buba Wakawa, the Edo State commander of NDLEA said the arrests took place between July and September this year. The agency said 2,930 kg of hard drugs were seized and 46.8 hectares of marijuana farms destroyed.

The farms were estimated to be producing 217,414 kg of cannabis. According to him, a breakdown of the seized drugs are: cannabis (2,929.6 kg), Tramadol (159 grammes), Swino (4 grammes), Vegha (26 grammes), Codeine (29 grammes) and Heroin (20 grammes). Two vehicles and motorcycles included items recovered from suspects.

The NDLEA, Wakawa said, recorded a breakthrough with the prosecution of one Obiora Nkemokonam. He was reportedly sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for possessing 20 kg of cannabis.
