The onion, also known as the bulb onion or common onion, is a popular vegetable all over the world that is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium. Its close relatives include the garlic, shallot, leek, chive, and Chinese onion.

Onions can have sweet taste and nice flavor if cooked, eating raw onions can sound like a problem at first. Still, the raw vegetables provide you with more vitamins and useful elements that is why it is better to eat them raw.

Origins and General Information

The Latin name of onion is known as Allium cepa.

Onions are native to Asia and the Middle East. Onions are the most cultivated species of the genus Allium, which also includes garlic, and the cultivation goes back to over 5,000 years.

Onions come in several varieties: red, white, yellow, and green (scallions). Yellow onions are considered the sweetest-tasting.

Health benefits of onions

What does onion do for the body?

Why would you prefer eating raw onions instead of cooking this popular vegetable?

We will list some of the top health benefits of eating onions for men and women you should know about.

1. Stronger immune system Eating raw onions can be useful for your immune system. This useful product enriches our bodies with antioxidants and creates a ‘wall’ to protect you from free radicals.

Add more onions to your meals and salads and your immune system will easier fight with different bacteria and viruses. In other words, you will feel much better than most people who do not like onions.

2. Healthier heart Do you want your heart to be healthier and stronger?

This is one of the most important raw onion health benefits. Experts believe that raw onion lowers the risks of heart and heart attacks.

Onion juice influences your blood pressure, reduces it and works as prevention to platelets and clusters. There are different studies of the influence of onion on the human heart, and some of them suggest that this vegetable has a positive effect.

Each onion you eat helps your blood regulation, improves cholesterol levels and makes the heart stronger.

3. Easier breathing Onions help to relax your muscles, and this can result in easier breathing. For example, if you have asthma, you might ease its symptoms if you eat raw onions every day.

However, it is extremely important for every patient with asthma to talk to their doctor before trying to eat onions as a treatment against such condition.

4. Improved digestion.

The cool benefits of eating onions for men and women include improved digestive system. Thanks to fiber contained in the vegetable, onion is great for better digestion.

5. Lower risk of cancer development Women and men can enjoy numerous onion benefits and reducing the risks of gastric and oral cancer is one of them.

Experts believe that every person who eats onions at least 2-5 times per week also protects his or her body and reduces the possibility of developing different types of cancer.

Some studies also have shown that raw yellow onions help to ease the condition after chemotherapy because it can reduce insulin resistance.

6. Stronger bones It doesn’t matter if you are young or getting older, you should take care of your health. Eating vegetables is great for your body because they all are an amazing natural source of vitamins.

Onions are rich in calcium which is a necessary element for the bones. Those people who consume these vegetables in the raw state easily reduce the possibilities of bone fractures by about twenty percent.

This is really nice, so think about adding this vegetable to your family meals.

7. Reduction of blood sugar Raw onion health benefits include the control of blood sugars. The elements contained in red onions, for example, can help with reducing the level of glucose for a while.

In other words, if you have diabetes you can talk to your doctor about adding onions to your everyday meals.

Those women and men who take care of their skin and wish to enjoy healthier hair have noticed how onion consumption helps with improving their skin and hair.

9. Antiseptic benefit You already know that raw onions can make your immune system more powerful, but this is not the only advantage of consuming these impressive vegetables.

If you have mouth infection, you can use onion as your natural antibiotic. Just cut raw onions into slices and eat with other vegetables or bread or alone. You can also add onions to salads and eat it fresh with a little bit of vegetable oil.

Onion benefits: Nutritional elements

Here are the main components of the vegetable:

Most of us avoid eating raw onions and prefer replacing them with other vegetables and flavors because of the strong smell and the fact that onions can make you cry while you slice or chop them. Is it possible to reduce the ‘effect of tears’ and mask ones breath after eating onions? Everything is possible.

The onions, your hands, and even knife should be wet when slicing onions, this will reduce the strong smell of onion. If you want to get rid of the unpleasant smell from your mouth after eating raw onions you are advised to eat walnuts, almonds, or pine nuts.

You can also mask your onion breath by chewing a mint or menthol gum after consuming your daily serving of this veggie. Stay healthy and make sure you are not allergic to this product before you consume it. Eat onions without crying and enjoy all the health benefits of this vegetable.

13 Ways To Boost Male Fertility And Increase Sperm Count

Global rates of infertility have remained relatively stable between 1990 and 2010, according to a study that compiled data from 277 national surveys in 190 countries. Research by the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimated that in 2010, 48.5 million couples worldwide were unable to have a child.

What Is Male infertility?

Male infertility refers to a male's inability to cause pregnancy in a fertile female. In humans it accounts for 40–50% of infertility. It affects approximately 7% of all men. Male infertility is commonly due to deficiencies in the semen, and semen quality is used as a surrogate measure of male fecundity.

The main symptom of infertility is the inability to get pregnant. A menstrual cycle that is too long (35 days or more), too short (less than 21 days), irregular or absent can mean that you're not ovulating. There may be no other outward signs or symptoms.

In this post, we will be listing ways to boost male fertility and increase sperm count.

Body Odour: Causes, Preventions And Treatments

What is body odour?

Body odour is the unpleasant smell produced by bacteria on the skin that break down the acids in your sweat.

Causes

Most patients with body odour have a problem with bacterial overgrowth on their skin. These bacteria produce odor by breaking down the skin's sebum (oil). People who don't bathe regularly are particularly at risk because folds of skin in the groin and armpits are the moist, warm, favored places for bacterial growth.

Body odour is most likely to occur in the following places:

feet, groin, armpits, genitals, belly button, anus, behind the ears, the rest of the skin, to a lesser extent, pubic hair and other hair

Ways to prevent body odour

1) Baking soda;

Some people we say, how can baking soda prevent body odour? The truth is, to get instantly rid of body odor, baking soda can come in handy.

It can absorb all the moisture from the skin and take away the smell as well. Baking soda can kill the odor-causing bacteria and prevent excessive sweating and odor.  Since it is alkaline in nature, it will lower down the pH level of sweating parts to counteract the acids in sweat.

Simply take a little of baking soda into your hands while taking shower and apply it onto underarms and scrub it for few minutes and then wash it off normally to clear the baking soda and the body odor.

2) Consume odour friendly food;

Some food we consume may be adding to the excessive sweating. Fiber-loaded food helps you detoxify the body by maintaining proper digestion.

Consuming salad which comprises of raw vegetables like carrots, cucumbers, spinach, peppers, can naturally cleanse your insides. Adding citrus fruits to your meals can also detoxify your body by flushing out the toxins that may be causing body odor.

3) Always wash your feet;

After a long day at work or after working out for an hour or two, our feet get sweaty, leaving them smelling deadly and stinky feet are no fun. Sometimes we tend to neglect our feet in our skincare regime.

Washing your feet thoroughly after removing your shoes is necessary. Warm water is better at killing bacteria than cold water. Make sure you dry your feet thoroughly afterward, including in between your toes.

4) Use antibacterial soap;

Using a good antibacterial soap can help you get rid of any body odor and make you feel fresh.
The best way is to use a loofah with it to scrub away all the bacteria and dead skin cells which will make you squeaky clean and will keep bad body odour at bay.

Treatments

1) Avoid spicy foods: Curry, garlic, and other spicy foods have the potential to make some people's sweat more pungent. Some experts believe a diet high in red meat may also raise the risk of developing more rapid body odor.

2) Clothing: Natural fibers allow your skin to breathe, resulting in better evaporation of sweat. Natural-made fibers include wool, silk or cotton.

If sweat from working out is your No. 1 cause of body odor, wash your workout clothes often. Sweaty gym clothes are a bacteria-breeding ground.

3) Surgery: When self-care and medicinal measures are not effective at treating severe body odor, a doctor can perform a surgical procedure called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) that destroys the sweating-controlling nerves below the skin of the armpits.

4) Aluminum chloride: This substance is usually the main active ingredient in antiperspirants. If your body does not respond to the home remedies mentioned above, talk to a pharmacist or your doctor about a suitable product containing aluminum chloride. Follow the instructions given to you carefully.

5) Apply apple cider vinegar: Acid, like the kind found in apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, inhibits the growth of bacteria—including the kind that makes your sweat smell gross. Just be cautious, and use it sparingly: "While apple cider vinegar and lemon juice may help reduce levels of odour-causing bacteria on the skin, they may cause skin irritation," says Zeichner.

Ebola Re-enforce, Killed 17 People In Northern Congo

Seventeen people in northwest Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have died from the deadly virus, Ebola, the health ministry has said, describing the fresh outbreak as a "public health emergency with international impact."

"Twenty-one cases of fever with haemorrhagic indications and 17 deaths" have been recorded in Equateur province, it said, citing a notification to the ministry as of May 3.

Congo’s  health ministry on Tuesday described the fresh outbreak as a “public health emergency with international impact. Twenty-one cases of fever with haemorrhagic indications and 17 deaths” have been recorded in Equateur province, it said.

This is Congo's ninth known outbreak of Ebola since 1976, when the deadly viral disease was first identified in then-Zaire by a Belgian-led team. In Geneva, the World Health Organization (WHO) said lab tests in the DRC confirmed the presence of Ebola virus in two out of five samples collected from patients.

“WHO is working closely with the government of the DRC to rapidly scale up its operations and mobilize health partners, using the model of a successful response to a similar… outbreak in 2017,” it said in a statement.

It said it had released $1 million (840,000 euros) from an emergency contingency fund, set up a coordination group and deployed more than 50 experts to work with the DRC government and health agencies. All the cases were reported from a clinic at Ilkoko Iponge, located about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from Bikoro, where treatment capacities are limited, the WHO said.

A team of experts from the WHO, Doctors without Borders (DRC) and Equateur province travelled to Bikoro on Tuesday to beef up coordination and carry out investigations, it said.

The worst-ever Ebola outbreak started in December 2013 in southern Guinea before spreading to two neighbouring west African countries, Liberia and Sierra Leone. That outbreak killed more than 11,300 people out of nearly 29,000 registered cases, according to WHO estimates, although the real figure is thought to be significantly higher.

There is no current vaccine to prevent Ebola or licensed treatment for it, although a range of experimental drugs are in development. Early care with rehydration may boost the chance of survival.

Amazing Health Benefits Of Pineapple

Pineapple, also known as ananas, is a delicious tropical fruit that is surrounded by thorny spikes and topped with hard, waxy leaves that are sometimes up to thirty per fruit. The fruit is up to a foot long and has a combination of sweet and tart taste.

Pineapple belongs to the Bromeliaceae family and is actually a composite fruit made of coalesced berries that grow at the crown of a fruiting tree. The name pineapple evolved in the 17th century due to its structure and appearance being similar to pine cones.

The pineapple fruit is known to offer several benefits. Let us discuss each benefit in detail below.

Treats Arthritis

One of the most celebrated uses of pineapple in terms of health is its ability to reduce the inflammation of joints and muscles, particularly those associated with arthritis, a debilitating disease that affects millions of people around the world. Pineapple contains a relatively rare proteolytic enzyme called bromelain, which is primarily associated with breaking down complex proteins and has serious anti-inflammatory effects. Bromelain is also positively correlated with reducing the signs and symptoms of arthritis in many.

Boosts Immunity

A single serving of pineapple has more than 130% of the dailyrequirement of vitamin C for human beings, making it one of the richest and most delicious sources of ascorbic acid.

Pineapple contains all of the recommended daily value of vitamin C, according to the FDA. Vitamin C is a primary water-soluble antioxidant that fights cell damage, according to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University. This makes vitamin C a helpful fighter against problems such as heart disease and joint pain.

Vitamin C helps in reducing illnesses and boosting the immune system by stimulating the activity of white blood cells and acting as an antioxidant to defend against the harmful effects of free radicals. Free radicals are dangerous byproducts of cellularmetabolism that can damage various organ systems and disrupt function, as well as cause healthy cells to mutate into cancerous ones. The vitamin C content of pineapple defends against this.

Speeds-up Wound Healing

One of the commonly overlooked benefits of vitamin C is its essential role in creating collagen. This is partly the reason why it is seen as ahealing vitamin because collagen is the essential protein base of blood vessel walls, skin, organs, and bones. High vitamin C content in pineapple helps you heal wounds and injuries quickly, and also defends your body against infections and illnesses.

Prevents Cancer

Pineapple has been directly related to preventing cancers of the mouth, throat, and breast, as it is rich in various antioxidants, including vitamin A, beta carotene, bromelain, various flavonoid compounds, and high levels of manganese. Manganese is an important cofactor of superoxide dismutase, an extremely potent free radical scavenger that has been associated with a number of different cancers.

Aids in Digestion

Eating pineapples regularly can protect you from a vast amount of health conditions, includingconstipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, atherosclerosis, and blood clotting, as well as high blood pressure. Pineapple, being rich in fiber, promotes the passage of food through the digestive tract at a normal rate and stimulates the release of gastric and digestive juices to help food dissolve. It also bulks up the loose stool, which helps in treating diarrhea and IBS. Furthermore, the bromelain in pineapple stimulates protein digestion, reduces gut inflammation, and therefore, treats digestive diseases.

Treats Cough and Cold

Pineapple is rich in both bromelain and vitamin C, therefore eating pineapple helps in preventing and treating respiratory illnesses, while eliminating phlegm and mucus from your body if you’ve already contracted an illness or infection. The immune system boosting property of vitamin C is well known, but the special enzyme, bromelain, is also connected with the reduction of phlegm and mucus build up in the respiratory tracts and sinus cavities.

Bone strength

Pineapple may help you keep standing tall and strong. The fruit contains nearly 75 percent of the daily-recommended value of the mineral manganese, which is essential in developing strong bones and connective tissue, according to the Linus Pauling Institute. One 1994 study suggested that manganese, along with other trace minerals, may be helpful in preventing osteoporosis in post-menopausal women.

Eye health

“Pineapples can help reduce the risk of macular degeneration, a disease that affects the eyes as people age, due in part to its high amount of vitamin C and the antioxidants it contains,” Flores said.

Improves Oral Health

Along with the antioxidant compounds that protect against oral cancer, pineapple also has astringent properties, whichstrengthen gums and teeth. Astringent agents help tighten up tissues and tone the body so that tooth loss, hair loss, muscle weakness and skin loosening do not occur. Pineapple is a very powerful astringent and is often prescribed as a natural remedy to fix the loosening of teeth or for the retraction of gums.

6 Health Benefits Of Eating Cucumber

Cucumber is a widely cultivated plant in the gourd family, Cucurbitaceae. It is a creeping vine that bears cucumiform fruits that are used as vegetables.

Maintain Overall Health
Cucumbers have excellent cleaning properties, and they actively remove accumulated waste and toxins from your body.

These fruits are very good for optimizing urinary bladder, kidney, liver and pancreatic functions. Cucumber juice along with carrot juice is extremely effective for rheumatic conditions caused by excessive uric acid in the body.

Drinking cucumber juice on a regular basis also helps cure gout and eczema. If you are having lung or stomach problems, be sure to add it to your diet. It also promotes muscle flexibility, while the magnesium content of cucumbers ensures proper blood circulation and relaxed nerves.

Since cucumbers are rich in minerals, they even prevent splitting of the finger and toenails. Cucumbers often act as antioxidants when you consume them with barbecued and fried foods.

Prevent Constipation & Kidney Stones
Cucumbers are a perfect blend of both fiber and water. Therefore, they help to protect your body from constipation and kidney stones. Reports say that a majority of Americans prefer to have a cucumber rich salad regularly as it is a great way to increase the fiber intake.

Cucumber is also a good source of vitamin C, silica, potassium, and magnesium; all of which have their own health benefits. These fruits have an extraordinary amount of water (about 96%) that is naturally purified, thus making the water content much higher in quality than ordinary water.

Cucumber skin contains high levels of vitamin A, so you will gain more nutrition if you eat the entire thing.

It May Aid in Weight Loss
Cucumbers could potentially help you lose weight in a few different ways.

First of all, they are low in calories.

Each one-cup (104-gram) serving contains just 16 calories, while an entire 11-ounce (300-gram) cucumber contains only 45 calories (1).

This means that you can eat plenty of cucumbers without packing on the extra calories that lead to weight gain.

Cucumbers can add freshness and flavor to salads, sandwiches and side dishes and may also be used as a replacement for higher calorie alternatives.

Furthermore, the high water content of cucumbers could aid in weight loss as well.

One analysis looked at 13 studies including 3,628 people and found that eating foods with high water and low calorie contents was associated with a significant decrease in body weight

The Bottom Line
Cucumbers are a refreshing, nutritious and incredibly versatile addition to any diet.

They are low in calories but contain many important vitamins and minerals, as well as a high water content.

Eating cucumbers may lead to many potential health benefits, including weight loss, balanced hydration, digestive regularity and lower blood sugar levels.

Control Blood Pressure
The studies done at DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) consisted of people consuming foods high in magnesium, potassium, and fiber. The results were clear; their blood pressure lowered to normal levels.

The group eating a diet rich in these complexes along with the other foods on the diet like seafood, low-fat dairy items, lean meat, and poultry saw their blood pressure falling by 5.5 points (systolic) over 3.0 points (diastolic).

Cucumber, therefore, regulates blood pressure and contributes to the proper structure of connective tissues in our body, including those in the muscles, bones, ligaments, cartilage, and tendons.

Easy to Add to Your Diet
Mild with a distinctly crisp and refreshing flavor, cucumbers are commonly enjoyed fresh or pickled in everything from salads to sandwiches.

Cucumbers are also often eaten raw as a low-calorie snack or can be paired with hummus, olive oil, salt or salad dressing to add a bit more flavor.

With just a bit of creativity, cucumbers can be enjoyed in many ways.

Top 10 Cancer Causing Food Stuff You Eat Daily

What if I told you there was something you could do right now to cut your cancer risk in half? That’s right, in half!

I point this out because you’ll note that several of the most common (and aggressive) cancers have to do with your gastrointestinal system. The function of your body that processes the food you eat, distributes it around your body as needed, and does its best to dump the leftover toxins.

That makes it a major area of your daily life that dramatically affects your prevention – and ultimately your survival – of cancer. The food and beverages you consume, the fuel your body uses to fight disease, is critical to your overall wellbeing.

Some foods are worse for you than others and are increasing your risk of many conditions and diseases. While cancer is one of the worst, regularly eating the cancer causing foods in our top ten list can also lead to heart disease, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and so much more.

What Causes Cancer?

Understanding possible causes of cancer comes down to understanding the causes of gene and DNA mutations. Chemicals (like carcinogens), radiation, obesity, hormones, chronic inflammation, smoking, viruses, and a number of other factors have been found to be cancer causing.

You can explode that out to many different types of chemicals whether it’s what you put in your body, what you breath, what you eat, radiation from all sources − women from mammograms, from CT scans, from your cell phones, your cell towers, your Wi-Fi. Cancer is caused by chemicals and radiation, period.”

If Bob is correct that the primary causes for cancer are chemicals and radiation, then both of these factors can be greatly reduced through the food and lifestyle choices that you make

Top 10 Cancer Causing Foods to Cut Your Cancer Risk in Half

-Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs):
The rapidly growing industry of genetically modified crops are infiltrating our food supply at an alarming rate. More than 90% of our corn and soy are now genetically modified.

This fairly new practice is the source of many debates. Experts agree that adequate testing was not done before GMO foods were added to the ingredient listing of thousands of products.

In other words, no one – including the growers and manufacturers of GMO foods – knows the long-term effect they will have on human health. Look for GMO-free labels whenever possible or buy organic (which always means a product is not genetically modified).

-Microwave Popcorn:
From the chemically-lined bag to the actual contents, microwave popcorn is at the center of lung cancer debates around the world.

Not only are the kernels and oil likely GMO (which the manufacturer does not have to disclose) unless organic, the fumes released from artificial butter flavoring contain diacetyl, which is toxic to humans.

Make your own organic popcorn the old-fashioned way – it tastes better, doesn’t release toxic fumes, and is a healthier choice for you.

-Canned Goods:
Most cans are lined with a product called bisphenol-A (BPA), which has been shown to genetically alter the brain cells of rats. Many plastic goods, thermal paper, water lines, and many dental composites also contain BPA.

Help protect your DNA by sticking to fresh or frozen vegetables that have no added ingredients for your family’s table! These are better for you and available year-round.

-Grilled Red Meat:
While grilled food can taste delicious, scientists have discovered that preparing meats in this way – especially processed meats like hot dogs – releases a carcinogen called heterocyclic aromatic amines. When you grill red meat to the point of well-done, it changes the chemical and molecular structure of the meat. You’re better off baking, broiling, or preparing meat in a skillet than on the grill.

-Refined Sugar:
The biggest cancer causing food (by far) is high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and other refined sugars. Even brown sugar is highly refined white sugar with some of the removed molasses added back in for flavor and color.

Refined sugars (and foods made with them) are the source of major insulin spikes and feed the growth of cancer cells.

Since the majority of the sugar supply in the U.S. is made using genetically modified (GMO) sugar beets, a healthier option is organic honey, coconut sugar, or maple sugar.

Now that oncologists are using diabetes medication to fight cancer cells, there’s no doubt (finally) that those mutated cancer cells love sugar.

-Salted, Pickled, and Smoked Foods:
These products typically contain preservatives, such as nitrates, which are intended to prolong shelf life. The additives used in processed foods can accumulate in your body over time. Eventually, such toxins cause damage at the cellular level and lead to diseases like cancer. When smoked foods are cooked at high temperatures, the nitrates are converted to the much more dangerous nitrites. (Note: By pickled foods we don’t mean the fermented foods you make at home.)

-Soda and Carbonated Beverages:
Sodas have been at the center of the health debate for two decades as a major cancer causing food. Filled with high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), dyes, and a host of other chemicals, they are very bad for every aspect of your health. They provide zero nutritional value and rob your body of the nutrients you get from other foods. Adding “diet” to the label means you’re also likely consuming aspartame – which is no better than rat poison to human cells.

-White Flour:
When flour is refined, all nutritional value is removed. Then it’s bleached with chlorine gas to make it more appealing to consumers. The glycemic index for white flour is very high – meaning it spikes your insulin levels without providing nutritional fuel. Carbohydrates are converted to sugars by your body, so excessive products that contain white flour can lead to increased insulin resistance. Simple sugars (like refined carbohydrates) are the preferred fuel source for cancer.

-Farmed Fish:
Commercial fish farming involves raising an incredible number of fish (such as salmon), in a crowded environment. More than 60% of the salmon consumed in the United States comes from a farming operation where they are treated with antibiotics, pesticides, and other carcinogenic chemicals to try and control the bacterial, viral, and parasitic outbreaks that result from cramming so many fish in a small space. Farmed fish also don’t have as much omega-3 as wild salmon.

-Hydrogenated Oils:
Vegetable oils are chemically extracted from their source, chemically treated, and more chemicals are added to change the smell and taste. They’re packed with unhealthy omega-6 fats (that Americans already consume way too much of) and have been proven to alter the structure of our cell membranes.

‘Avoid Unprotected Sex On Valentine's Day’

Dr. Sani Aliyu The DG of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has announced ahead of the Valentine's Day which is on Wednesday, that Nigerians especially youths should desist from engaging in unprotected sex.

Dr. Sani Aliyu, was quoted as saying this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Mrs. Toyin Aderibigbe.

He said it was important that all Nigerians should know their HIV status, as it marked the entry point to prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS.

Aliyu asked Nigerians to “share love and not HIV.”

The statement read in part, “This period is particularly noted for young people expressing their love for one another. This could lead to impulsive decisions such as unprotected sex resulting in unplanned pregnancies and an increased risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

“The DG NACA urges Nigerians, especially the youths, to express love within the context of caring deeply for their loved ones and avoid risky behaviour that will make them vulnerable to HIV/AIDS and other STDs.”

Aliyu said couples should seize the opportunity to check their HIV status.

He said it was important that all Nigerians should know their HIV status, as it marked the entry point to prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS.

“A young person not tested may not have the opportunity to enjoy future Valentine’s Days if he or she is diagnosed late or presents with terminal complications related to HIV infection and AIDS,” he said.

The NACA boss revealed that at least 15 per cent of Nigerian youths lose their virginity before the age of 15.

He said about 4.2 per cent of persons between the ages of 15 and 24 had HIV.

Aliyu therefore called on youths who could not abstain from sex to use protection at all times.

The statement added, “The DG noted that first sexual contact in Nigeria begins at less than 15 years for 15 per cent of Nigeria’s youths. This, coupled with the practice of having multiple sexual partners, increases HIV vulnerability among the youth population alongside the very low HIV testing rates – only 17 per cent of young people know their HIV status.

“The DG states that new HIV infections are currently highest among young people aged 15-24 years. It is important to reduce this worrying trend among the Nigerian youths by encouraging faithful relationships for those who cannot abstain from sex, and the use of barrier protection such as condoms, which prevents STDs, including HIV and unwanted pregnancies.”

10 Things You’re Doing That Are Killing Your Kidneys – Avoid Them

The kidneys are an integral part of our body, but we usually take them for granted until they stop functioning properly. It could be kidney infection, development of kidney stones, or other problems.

Whatever it is, our kidneys are very important as they are responsible for detoxifying the blood and filtering out toxins and waste products. These two bean-shaped organs have plenty of duties, making it crucial that we keep them in top health.

Unfortunately, most of us don’t know that some of our daily habits can harm our kidneys. Stop doing the following bad habits before it’s too late:

1. You don’t empty your bladder right away.
There are times when you really have to hold your pee and it’s not that harmful to your health. But if you do this habitually, it can cause kidney damage.

2. You don’t drink enough water.
Your kidneys, just like all the parts of the body, need enough water. Insufficient water can lead to less blood flow to your kidneys. As a result, your blood becomes thick, hampering the ability of the kidneys to remove toxins from the body.

3. You eat too much salt.
Consuming too much salt on a regular basis is bad for your kidneys and your overall health. Our kidneys break down 95% of sodium from the food we eat. This means that high salt intake prompts the kidneys to work harder just to remove the salt. This can lead to poor kidney functioning and increased water retention.

4. You take painkillers regularly.
While we need painkillers from time to time, some people turn this into a habit to reduce swelling, fever, and control pain. Unfortunately, painkillers or analgesics are bad for the kidneys.

5. You consume too much protein.
We need protein, but too much of it can increase the risk of kidney disease.

6. You’re an alcoholic.
If you’re an excessive drinker, you will eventually kill your kidneys and cause harm to your health.

7. You eat too much sugar.
Aside from salt, sugar can also contribute to decreased kidney functioning. Start by avoiding sugary drinks to keep your kidneys healthy.

8. You’re a smoker.
Smoking is bad for your health, including your organs such as your kidneys. One reason is that smoking can cause hypertension that leads to reduced blood flow to the kidneys.

9. You drink too much coffee.
You should limit your caffeine consumption to three cups daily if you want to maintain the health of your kidneys.

10. You don’t sleep enough.
Sleep is important to our health as well as to our kidneys as it allows the organs to renew or refresh themselves.

It’s not too late to stop these bad habits, which do not only harm your kidneys but can also hinder you from living a healthy life.

7 Powerful Health Benefits Of Garlic

Garlic (scientific name Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, Allium.

Garlic is not as colorful or alluring as many fruit and vegetable superfood varieties, but it is actually one of the most powerful healing foods that you can include in your daily diet.

It is used as an antibiotic to treat bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections with the history of several thousand years of human consumption and use,

Every 100 grams of garlic will serve you with close to 150 calories, 33 grams of carbs, 6.36 grams of protein. Garlic is also enriched with Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, folate, Vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc.

Here are the top 7 healing properties of garlic that put many pharmaceutical drugs to shame;

  1. Garlic Naturally Reduces Your Blood Pressure
  2. It Effectively Combats Cancer
  3. It Can Detoxify Your Body
  4. Helps control diabetes
  5. Increases libido
  6.  Prevention of Heart Disease
  7. Helps to treat infected wound
Garlic Naturally Reduces Your Blood Pressure
Pharmaceutical blood pressure drugs come with a host of side effects, many of which are deadly. Garlic comes with a long list of additional and most likely unexpected benefits. Thanks to the unique way in which garlic is able to affect the smooth muscles of the arteries and therefore cause them to relax and dilate, garlic can directly lower your blood pressure naturally.

“American scientists first tried garlic against high blood pressure in 1921. Garlic consistently lowers blood pressure in laboratory animals.” – The Food Pharmacy: Dramatic New Evidence That Food Is Your Best Medicine by Jean Carper

It Effectively Combats Cancer
well-known benefit of garlic is its ability to fight off cancer both effectively and without any side effects. This is believed to be due to the fact that garlic enhances the production of what is known as hydrogen sulfide.

This increased production is thought by scientists to be effective in preventing the development of cancer particularly prostate, breast, and colon cancer.

It Can Detoxify Your Body
Garlic helps in the elimination of toxins from your body. Toxins are unwanted contaminants that covers everything from chemicals and heavy metals to parasites. Containing multiple sulfur-containing compounds, garlic is able to stimulate liver enzymes responsible for removing toxins from the body.

Helps control diabetes
Diabetes is a group of diseases that result in too much sugar in the blood (high blood glucose). It can harm the kidneys; inhibit nervous system functions, cause heart disorders, and even lead to poor eyesight. But, the oil extracted from garlic has properties that can shield diabetes patients from the side effects of this disease. It can also help in the treatment of intestinal issues like dysentery, diarrhea, and colitis.

Increases libido
Libido, colloquially known as sex drive, is a person's overall sexual drive or desire for sexual activity. Sex drive is influenced by biological, psychological and social factors.

So, garlics have been proven to have certain aphrodisiac properties. This means that as an herb, garlic can be used as an effectual sex rejuvenating and enhances the libido of both men and women.

Prevention of Heart Disease
Several studies have indicated an association between daily consumption of garlic and prevention of stomach and colorectal cancers. It is said to strengthen the immunity of the body against cancer.

Helps to treat infected wound
Did you known that Garlic can be placed on infected wounds. But rather than applying it in its raw form, it should be mixed with three drops of water as the undiluted juice can irritate the skin.

Ghana Records 80% Increase In HIV In 2017 – Report

The 2017 Ghana AIDS Commission report on HIV/AIDS infection shows an 80% increases in new cases.

The report also indicates that the Volta Region and Brong Ahafo Region topped the chart of HIV/AIDS prevalence.

The findings were revealed at the Commission’s two-day annual strategic planning meeting.

The Ghana AIDS Commission is, therefore, asking Ghanaians to be extra careful in order not to contract the deadly disease.

Director-General of the Commission, Ambassador Dr Amokowa Blay Adu-Gyamfi made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to voluntarily test for the virus.

She asked persons living with the virus to stick to the approved antiretroviral drugs because there was no herbal cure for the disease yet.

“We are not condemning them (herbalist), we are just saying that there is no herbal cure as yet for HIV. If you want to take them it’s up to you. But then take your anti-retroviral medication,” she said.

She said the activities of the gay community – the key population – are to blame for the sharp increase in HIV infection.

A large proportion of the new HIV/AIDS cases were pregnant women, the report also revealed.

Meanwhile Nigeria had the second largest HIV epidemic in 2016, with over 196,000 adolescents representing 10 per cent of the global burden said to be living with HIV/AIDS, according to a World Health Report.

The report was given by Mrs Esther Samuel, The Chief Matron, Lagos State Ministry of Health, at a programme by a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Lisa Demi Project, in Lagos. AIDS SYMBOL Newsmen report that Lisa Demi Project, initiated in the U.K., seeks address the sexual health issues through Talks, Counselling and Entertainment among others.

The programme, held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos on Thursday, and title “ Let’s Talk about Our Sexual Health’’, is targeted at teenagers between the ages 14 to 24. Speaking on the dangers of unrestrained sexual activities among the youths, Samuel said the statistics from the health sector remained a concern.

Help, I Can't Have Erection Anymore

As shared by a Nairalander, Dreyk.

It all started when I was 17. Had access to internet and too many Indecency were everywhere on the net. What started out so weird and looked awkward to me ended up being my means of pleasure. Didn't even think of GF coz to me it was stress. I could stroke my organ for a whole day watching Indecency. I really enjoyed it at first and was even taking drugs to delay "release of sperm"
To me it was all fun.

When I got to 20, I decided to try out a GF, but it didn't work out well so I fully went into masturbation and didn't even think of relationship.

When I became 23, I noticed my joystick wasn't getting the 100% erection like it used to but I didn't even bother. Till the day I decided to have sex and my organ couldn't rise, my gf had to give me a Mouth Gig before I got half erection, she wasn't happy, I saw disappointment written all over her face. I had to lie to her that it was coz I was worried about something else and my mind wasn't on her side or the sex.

Christmas night we decided to have another sex but joystick couldn't even rise. I tried force it into her but it fell out all flaccid. Had to use my hand to pleasure her that night again she was worried and the next day she said we've got to talk about it.

I embarrassingly told her nothing to talk about. She is someone I want to marry. Am 28 years now and my mum is already talking about when will I be getting a wife ??

It's beginning to give me nightmare.
Pls doctors in the house ........have I maybe accidentally broken my dick??

Or does it mean I have over used my organ??
Pls is there a cure??

Breast Implants linked To Heightened Risk Of Rare Cancer

Women with breast implants have an increased risk of getting a rare type of lymphoma, according to a new study published on Thursday in the journal JAMA Oncology.

But the overall chance of developing anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), a cancer of the immune system cells, as a result of having a breast augmentation is relatively low.

The heightened risk sounds alarming at first — researchers found that those with implants are 421 times more likely to develop this specific cancer than those without implants, but the number of women who actually get the disease after getting implants is still small.

About one in every 35,000 women who has a breast enhancement will develop ALCL by age 50 — a very small number considering that only about 4% of women in the U.S. go under the knife for this procedure.
“Women should not panic,” the study’s lead author Daphne de Jong told Newsweek, “but they should be aware of it.”

Plus, the study was conducted in the Netherlands, where 45% of implants are textured, the authors said, and 82% of the women with this type of lymphoma had textured implants. Here in the U.S., a smoother, different type of implant is usually used.
