Mark Zuckerberg: I Want To ‘Fix’ Facebook In 2018

The co-founder of FacebooK, Mark Zuckerberg always challenge himself to achieve new things every new year. In the past, the founder has challenged himself in areas like running one mile a day, reading a book every other week and eating only what he kills.

He disclosed this in a Facebook post:

“The world feels anxious and divided, and Facebook has a lot of work to do whether it’s protecting our community from abuse and hate, defending against interference by nation states, or making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent.

My personal challenge for 2018 is to focus on fixing these important issues. We won’t prevent all mistakes or abuse, but we currently make too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools.

If we’re successful this year then we’ll end 2018 on a much better trajectory”

In 2018, 33-year-old Mark Zuckerberg has said his personal challenge for 2018 is working to prevent Facebook from being misused in ways that potentially do harm to its billions of users and to society at large and if its successful the year then will end on a much better trajectory

Tillerson Backs Trump As Book Casts Mental Health Doubts

Washington's chief diplomat, Rex Tillerson found himself obliged to defend Trump's fitness for office on Friday after a bombshell new book called into doubt his mental health.

In an interview on foreign policy challenges, Tillerson was asked about claims that Trump has a short attention span, regularly repeats himself and refuses to read briefing notes.
"I've never questioned his mental fitness. I've had no reason to question his mental fitness," said Tillerson.
"I have to learn how he takes information in, processes it and makes decisions," Tillerson told CNN.
"I'm here to serve his presidency. So I've had to spend a lot of time understanding how to best communicate with him."
Rex Tillerson insisted that the right decisions had been made and that the United States is in a stronger place internationally thanks to Trump's policies.

"He is not a typical president of the past, I think that's well recognized -- that's also why the American people chose him," he said, insisting that he does not expect to be asked to resign in the coming year.

Tillerson was forced to mount his defense as Washington devoured a new supposed tell-all -- Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" -- rushed into bookstores after the White House failed to suppress it.

The book quickly sold out in shops in the US capital, with some even lining up at midnight to get their hands on it and others circulating pirated copies. Trump has decried the instant best-seller as "phony" and "full of lies."

The 71-year-old Republican president, approaching the first anniversary of his inauguration, responded with fury.

"I authorized Zero access to White House (actually turned him down many times) for author of phony book! I never spoke to him for book. Full of lies, misrepresentations and sources that don't exist," Trump tweeted Thursday.

But Wolff countered: "I absolutely spoke to the president. Whether he realized it was an interview or not. I don't know, but it certainly was not off the record."

The book includes extensive quotes from Steve Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist, and its publication sparked a very public break between the former allies.

Bannon is quoted accusing Trump's eldest son Don Jr of "treasonous" contacts with a Kremlin-connected lawyer, and saying the president's daughter Ivanka, who imagines running for president one day, is "dumb as a brick."

Revealed: Inside Donald Trump's And Melania's Toxic Marriage

Donald and wife Melania Trump's marriage has been burst wide open in an explosive new book, which claims the pair barely speak and never shared a bed.

Michael Wolff's new book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, already branded as "false and fake" by Trump over Twitter, charts the billionaire's chaotic rise to power and alleges his wife never wanted him to become President.

Author Wolff delves into Trump's dizzying political victory, his allies and enemies as well as his marriage to third wife Melania.

The pair, who married in 2005 at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, barely speak and go for days without even knowing where each other are, according to Wolff.

In a damning indictment of the marriage, the author claims everyone around the President perceives the relationship as "perplexing" and says Trump barely knows his 12-year-old son Barron, using him only for public appearances.

"Donald Trump's marriage was perplexing to almost everybody around him - or it was, anyway, for those without private jets and many homes. He and Melania spent relatively little time together. They could go days at a time without contact, even when they were both in Trump Tower.

"Often she did not know where he was, or take much notice of that fact. Her husband moved between residences as he would move between rooms," Wolff writes.

Insinuating a bizarre night time ritual, Wolff said Trump demanded a key to his bedroom, locking his wife and the secret service out so he could binge on cheeseburgers while watching not one but THREE televisions.

Wolff also alleges Trump likes to head beneath the duvet at 6.30pm.

It is believed the President prefers McDonalds and other fast food joints because he lives in fear of being poisoned. Because fast food is already prepared he suspects it is a safer food source than other choices.

"The book is clearly going to be sold in the bargain fiction section," fumed the first lady's Communications Director Stephanie Grisham.

US Targets Iran Over Deadly Unrest

Washington slapped sanctions on five Iranian companies on Thursday, January 4, and called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting, further stepping up pressure on Tehran over the deadly unrest that has gripped the country.

The US moves came even as Iranian authorities declared an end to the turmoil, and pro-regime demonstrators rallied across the nation while officials switched focus to addressing the economic concerns that have fueled protests.

The US imposed sanctions against 5 Iranian firms alleged to have been working on an illegal ballistic missile program, linking the move to the protests.

"These sanctions target key entities involved in Iran's ballistic missile program, which the Iranian regime prioritizes over the economic well-being of the Iranian people," US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.

On the streets of Tehran meanwhile, a heavy police presence lingered though there were no reports of fresh protests overnight.

Limited social media activity suggested unrest in provincial towns was also down.

Iranian state TV showed huge pro-government crowds marching across 10 cities, including Isfahan, Ardebil, and Mashhad, where the protests first erupted a week ago.

"We are together behind the leader," chanted the demonstrators, in reference to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The UN Security Council was set to hold an emergency meeting on Friday afternoon to discuss the wave of protests in Iran, at the request of the United States.

Russia has criticized the US push for Iran to be discussed at the Security Council and it remained unclear if other council members would try to block the meeting via a procedural vote.

Underlying issues

In a bid to address grievances that drove the initial unrest, Iranian authorities were weighing options including blocking unpopular measures in President Hassan Rouhani's recent budget.

"The people's main demand now is for the government and officials to deal with the economic problems," Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Khamenei, told the semi-official ISNA news agency.

The head of the army, General Abdolrahim Mousavi, thanked security forces for "putting out the fire of sedition."

A total of 21 people died and hundreds were arrested in five days of unrest that began December 28 as protests over economic woes and quickly turned against the regime as a whole, with attacks on government buildings and police stations.

'Grotesque intervention'

Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said 42,000 people had taken part in the unrest nationwide.

It was a higher figure than the 15,000 given by the head of the Revolutionary Guards a day earlier, but still far below the hundreds of thousands that took to the streets during the last major protest movement in 2009.

A US State Department spokeswoman said those killed and detained "will not be forgotten," after the White House warned it could impose sanctions on any officials it holds responsible.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly tweeted his backing for the protesters, his most recent saying he has "such respect for the people of Iran as they try to take back their corrupt government."

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted back: "Trump has an odd way of showing 'such respect.'"

"From labelling them a 'terrorist nation' and banning them from visiting the US, to petty insults on the name of the Persian Gulf," he wrote, referring to Trump's use of the term "Arabian Gulf."

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis underscored Trump's message, saying: "The American people do not have an issue with the Iranian people. We've got a big issue with the Iranian authoritarian regime."

Russia jumped to Iran's defense, with deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov telling state agency TASS: "Despite the many attempts to distort what is really going on (in Iran), I am sure that our neighbor, our friend, will overcome its current difficulties."

The question now is whether Trump will continue to waive nuclear-related sanctions suspended under the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

Under the deal, Trump must actively lift certain sanctions every few months and the next deadline falls on January 12.

Iran – which has long accused the United States and Sunni Arab rivals led by Saudi Arabia of interference in its affairs – said external "enemies" were behind recent unrest.

Online messaging and photo sharing platforms Telegram and Instagram remained blocked on mobile phones, having been interrupted soon after protests began.

Parliament responds

Iran's political establishment has closed ranks against the unrest, with even reformists condemning the violence.

But many have also called on Rouhani to address the economic issues that drove the initial protests.

There have already been moves in parliament to block the unpopular budget measures announced last month, which included cuts to welfare and fuel price hikes.

Rouhani came to power in 2013 promising to mend the economy and ease social tensions, but high living costs and unemployment have left many feeling that progress is too slow.

Rural areas, which have seen years of drought and under-investment, are particularly hard-hit.

In the capital, there is widespread sympathy with the economic discontent fuelling the unrest, particularly an unemployment rate that is officially close to 30 percent for young people.

But some Tehranis said US claims they were desperate for freedom were overblown.

"If the people of Iran have something to say, it's about economic problems. They want to see their demands, what they voted for, fulfilled," Hamid Rahimi, a 33-year-old bank employee, says.

Herdsmen Kills Woman, Destroy 200 Acre Farms In Ondo

Some suspected Fulani herdsmen have allegedly invaded a farmland at Arodoye community, in the Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, destroying 200 acre farms.

The herdsmen also allegedly killed a female farmer, identified as Patience Salami.

The incident was said to have occurred during the Yuletide holiday when most of the farmers had travelled out of the community.

It was gathered that nobody had been arrested by the security agencies for the incident.

Some of the farmers who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday lamented that they had lost millions, saying the herdsmen destroyed farm produce.

Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Justice Micheal Owoyemi, whose farm was also affected, said some of the farm produce destroyed by the herdsmen included cassava, cocoyams, yams, vegetables, adding that some cocoa farms were set on fire.

He said, “The herdsmen destroyed over 5,000 heads of cassava in my farm. They took the advantage of the Christmas break; they uprooted our cassava to feed their cattle.

“We have reported the herdsmen to the security agents and also to the Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, who promised to intervene.

“The herdsmen are determined to send farmers out of their farms unless steps are taken by concerned authorities. What they destroyed is worth millions of naira.

“Most of these people here depend on the farms produce to cater to their families.”

Owoyemi, who is a serving judge in the Ondo State Judiciary, said the farmers had petitioned the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, security agencies and the Ministry of Agriculture to inform them of the havoc wrecked on farms in the area, but nothing had been done.

Another farmer and member of the community, Mr. Victory Oweh, lamented that he lost produce on 10 acres to the destruction by the herdsmen.

“We are just respecting the law of the land and trying not to take the law into our own hands.

“Ondo State Government should follow the steps taken by the Ekiti State Government by enacting laws to curb the activities of herdsmen. We are calling on the state government and security agencies before taking the law into our own hands.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph said the matter had not been reported to the police.

Meanwhile in Rivers State, five persons have been reportedly killed on Thursday by gunmen in Egbeda, a community in the Emohua Local Government Area.

The police, however, said two persons were killed when the hoodlums stormed the area.

A source, who spoke with our correspondent in Emohua, explained that the gunmen wore black trousers and T-shirts with red caps, adding that they (gunmen) escaped when they noticed that some soldiers were trailing them.

He disclosed that the incident happened in the morning while some of the indigenes were preparing to go out for their business.

“Some gunmen came to Egbeda this morning (Thursday) and killed five persons. We tried to arrest them, but they managed to run away,” the security source said.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Zaki, said one person was killed in Unyeada in the Andoni Local Government Area of the state.

Zaki explained that the hoodlums, who shot and killed one person in Egbeda came on motorcycles, adding that security had been beefed up in the area.

On the January 1 killings in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, the CP stated that the command had launched a manhunt for those involved in the act.

Zaki assured people in the area of adequate security and added that measures had been put in place to ensure that those involved were arrested and prosecuted.

“A total of 16 persons were feared dead, while a few others sustained injuries.

“A manhunt has been launched for the perpetrators. And I can assure you that they will be arrested and brought to justice soon.

“Our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones.

“We share their pains and we will spare no efforts in bringing the perpetrators to face justice.”

He urged anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums to provide such to the police.

Rotimi Amaechi Has Serious Mental Issues – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said that Chibuike Amaechi, a former governor of the state, now the Minister of Transport, has a serious mental problem.

According to Rivers State Governor, national development has slowed down ‘because of mentally challenged Amaechi.’

The former governor had on Tuesday, called for immediate resignation of Governor Wike, following series of attacks and killings in different Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

Wike said based on the Minister’s logic, President Buhari needs to resign because of the nationwide breakdown of security.

Governor Wike said this at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday when the management of the Silverbird Group presented his nomination letter as the Silverbird Man of the Year, 2017.

His words, “Former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has a serious mental case. This is what makes it difficult for him to appreciate the seriousness of security issues."

“That is the kind of people that we have in the Federal Cabinet. With such people, it is impossible for the country to make progress. He needs urgent medical attention.”

Wike further described as ridiculous the allegation by Amaechi that he armed the perpetrators of the Omoku killings.

The governor was surprised why the Minister has refused to blame the APC governors of Lagos, Benue, Kwara and Kaduna States for killings in their states.

He stated that all the heads of security agencies in Rivers State were nominated by Amaechi.

He added, “Amaechi is the one who manipulates the posting of security heads to Rivers State using the Federal Government. They know what they are doing."

“If they are planning anything against Rivers State, they will not succeed.”

Eleven persons were killed on wednesday in a suicide attack on a mosque at Gamboru town in the Gamboru-Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.

A member of a youth vigilante group in Gamboru, Modu Ibrahim, told our correspondent on the telephone that a suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body at a mosque in Gamboru.

He said the bomber, who died in the explosion, caused the death of 10 other persons, while nine died immediately, two other persons were later confirmed dead in the hospital.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the attack occurred at about 5am, when a teenage male suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device, strapped to his body in a mosque in the Yobe area of Gamboru.

The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Rogers Nicholas, confirmed the attack to NAN in Maiduguri.

But Nicholas said five persons were killed in the attack as against the 11 earlier reported.

He added that the troops neutralised a suicide bomber at Rann, the headquarters of the Kala-Balge Local Government Area.

He revealed that the teenage suicide bomber hailed from Gamboru town, adding that the bomber’s father was among the 10 persons who lost their lives in the attack.

“The suicide bomber hailed from Gamboru town; he disowned his parents and joined the insurgents in the bush.

“He entered the mosque, blew up himself into pieces and killed 10 persons, including his biological father,” he said.

Abba added that the injured persons were referred to the clinic in the Internally Displaced Persons camp in the area for treatment.

The state government had a day earlier tightened security. It announced the extension of curfew hours in the state capital, Maiduguri, after the resurgence of violence.

Prostitute Returns To Work, 30 Minutes After Giving Birth

A British prostitute returned to work in a notorious red light district just 30 minutes after giving birth, a Police Community Support Office has revealed.

This was revealed by Jacqui Fairbanks from the Police Community Support Office, who has been helping the sex workers in Hull’s Hessle Road for ten years and says there are currently around 40 of them working in the area at various times.

Mental health problems are common and there are problems of trafficking and coercion by pimps and boyfriends, explained the officer.

‘One woman had a baby and, within half an hour, was back out on the streets. That’s how desperate some of these women are,’ she told the Hull Daily Mail.

PCSO Fairbanks says the lack of sympathy for prostitutes can be unfair.

'At the end of the day these women are somebody's daughter. I try to tell them they are better than this. But all we can do is off them the help through the different agencies.
The PCSO said that the prostitute's customers come from a variety of backgrounds
