Apple And Google Are Rerouting Their Employee Buses As Attacks Resume

Apple and Google are re-routing employee shuttle buses after numerous coaches were attacked this week.

At least five Apple buses and one Google bus were targeted on Friday and Tuesday, according to reports.

It’s suspected that someone is shooting out the windows using pellet guns, or perhaps throwing rocks. The attacks took place on highway 280, so Apple (AAPL, -0.17%) is diverting its buses from that road, even though doing so will add 30-45 minutes to the commute time in either direction.

A Google bus was also attacked on the same road on Tuesday, SFGate reported. Google, too, is rerouting its shuttles from the highway as a result.

The buses were not marked with the logos of the companies that chartered them. However, according to a Guardian report, the companies are identifiable by the colors of the buses: white for Google, silver for Apple and blue for Facebook (FB, +1.32%).

Officer Art Montiel, a spokesman for California Highway Patrol, suspects the culprit is either a pellet gun or a person throwing rocks, SFGate reported.

The attacks are likely part of a protest against tech-company-led gentrification in the San Francisco area.

“It appears that they’re going after the unmarked tech buses,” Montiel told SFGate.

Montiel added that he had received no reports that other buses, like Greyhound buses, had been targeted.

Montiel warned that the projectiles are considered dangerous as they could possibly distract the bus driver and cause a collision.

There have been no reports of injuries as a result of the attacks.
