Diplo covered quite a bit of ground, surely giving What Would Diplo Do season 2 plenty to pull from.
Speaking of the satirical series starring James Van Der Beek, there's no fucking way they'll skip over Diplo's anecdote about trying to land a Rihanna collaboration.
For those who missed it, Diplo was asked by writer Will Welch about the process of getting a track to Rihanna.
This line of questioning resulted in a quickly excerpted and widely shared bit from Diplo about a pair of unsuccessful collaboration pitches.
"I played her [the Major Lazer song] 'Lean On,'" Diplo recalled. "She was like, I don't do house music . I face-palmed so hard on that one."
During a separate studio session with Future, Metro Boomin, and the Weeknd, Diplo played Rihanna another track and was met with a similar—albeit far more quotable— response: So I played her a song. And she was like, This sounds like a reggae song at an airport. [laughs] I was like, I'm gonna go kill myself.
The "sounds like a reggae song at an airport" line was fucking everywhere Tuesday, even popping up on Rihanna's Instagram.
Rihanna, not long after the "sounds like a reggae song at an airport" hoopla started to peak, captioned a screenshot of one of many "reggae song at an airport" stories with an apology.
Diplo seems unfazed by all this "reggae song at an airport" talk. He replied to Rihanna's Instagram apology with a simple "we gonna get one tho," then offered a succinct emoji response to a fan who commended his persistence.
I need a man with @diplo 's persistence. Straight up said "we gonna get one though" haha
Not to get too meta this early in the morning, but the other Diplo also chimed in.
