PETER DADA the family of Ayalodi in Ilado , Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State has appealed to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to bring to book the killers of their son, Tope Ojo, who was killed three months ago in the town.
The family alleged that Ojo , a youth leader in the town, was allegedly murdered by some men following the fracas that ensued over a chieftaincy title.
In a petition written to the governor and made available to our correspondent by the family ’s lawyer on Friday, Atima Koboju, the family alleged that there was an attempt by the Ministry of Justice to sweep the matter under the carpet.
Following Ojo’s death, Koboju said the case file was duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice but the autopsy report and statements by eyewitnesses in the case were deliberately ignored by the advising legal officer and the DPP.
“ We, therefore, passionately urge Your Excellency (Akeredolu ) to direct the review of the legal advice in order to correct the wrong that such legal advice will cause to the complainant, in order to maintain a society ruled on the foundation of the rule of law, equity and justice , ” the lawyer stated.
However, an officer in the legal office of the Ondo State Ministry of Justice, who spoke on condition of anonymity, denied the allegation, noting that the DPP did not compromise in the matter.
