Zlatan Ibrahimovic out for the season after suffering knee injury against Anderlecht

The Swede landed awkwardly in the final minute of normal time as the Red Devils sealed their progression to the last four of the Europa League.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury. And in a devastating double blow, Marcos Rojo is also expected to miss the rest of the campaign after also hurting his knee in Manchester United’s Europa League win over Anderlecht.

Ibrahimovic, 35, may now have even played his last game for United as his contract expires this summer and his future is unresolved.

The Swedish superstar fell awkwardly when he landed in stoppage time and immediately feared it was a bad ligament injury.

Thomasloaded  understands both players underwent scans on Friday and it is bad news for both. They were left devastated after being told the news after training and team mates consoled them.

Rojo has been in good form and bravely played on but had been told that he now faces a lay-off and is not expected to play again in this campaign.

Ibrahimovic is waiting to discover the full extent of the problem which may only be known when the swelling goes down but there is a fear it could be a lengthy lay-off.

That could have serious repercussions on his career as United want to re-sign him but now may wait to see how it is resolved.

There have been offers from the MLS and China but again they may be unwilling to sign him before the length of delay is known.

It is a huge blow for United as they face a fixture pile up after being drawn with Celta Vigo in the Europa League and could have ten games yet to play in a 64 game marathon         season.
