Train crushes a young girl to death in Lagos

It was wailing and cursing yesterday morning at
Iju, a suburb of Lagos, when an unidentified
young girl, who had gone to buy petrol, was
crushed to death by a moving train at Fagba
rail-crossing.

Residents, passers-by and hawkers in the area
were seen wailing and crying, especially women,
who trooped to the scene of the accident, where
the remains of the young girl littered the rail
track.

According to an eyewitness, the young girl was
clutching a gallon of fuel, which she had gone to
buy from a nearby filling station before the
incident occurred.

It was gathered that she was rushing to cross
the rail track while others were waiting patiently
for the train to pass. “As she attempted to dash
across the rail, a middle aged man tried to stop
her from crossing by holding her hand, but she
brushed off his hands.”
The source added that immediately she dashed
across the track, the oncoming train tore her
body into two.

As onlookers rushed to the scene, a man, who
claimed to be her father turned up at the scene
weeping loudly, mourning the death of his
daughter and cursing himself.
The man, who refused to disclose his name,
wept uncontrollably that he sent her to buy fuel
for their generator after her mother and siblings
left the house, unknown to him that he was
sending her to her grave.

According to the father, who was still in shock
from the incidence, “so this is how my daughter
met her untimely death all because she went to
buy fuel for me? She cannot just die in this
manner.”

Later the corpse of the young girl was moved to
an unknown destination.
